NC-AATF French Teacher of the Year
Each year, the NC-AATF selects one French teacher in our state as Teacher of the Year. Candidates for this award demonstrate consistent, long term, and significant contributions to French education in North Carolina through strong pedagogy, demonstrated impact on student learning, creativity, professionalism, and advocacy for French education both in and out of the classroom. The NC-AATF Teacher of the Year receives an engraved plaque, a complementary one-year AATF membership, and sponsorship to attend the FLANC fall conference to receive their award. We also ask our ToY to present a professional development session on the NC-AATF strand at FLANC in the year following receipt of their award.

The AATF conferred the award of exemplary to the East Mecklenburg High School French program in March, one of nine in the nation to receive it in 2025. The program makes use of innovative and creative methods in teaching, gives standards-based assessments, and offers numerous cultural activities beyond the classroom. The school participates in the AATF National French Contest and inducts students into the French Honor Society. Its teachers show excellent preparation and enthusiastic dedication to their work. Administrators, parents, students, and graduates have all praised the program and its teachers in glowing terms. Graduates have continued to use French and the skills they acquired in college and in their careers, such as teaching, business, and government.
Small Grants for French Teachers
NC-AATF small grants support educational projects designed to promote French in our state. North Carolina K-16 French teachers who have been members of NC-AATF for at least two years are eligible to apply for grants of up to $500. Applicants are urged to use this grant to leverage additional funding from local organizations or from the AATF National organization. Click Here to access the grant application.
NC-AATF Future Leaders Fellowship
Each year, NC-AATF sponsors one member to attend the AATF National future leaders workshop and National Convention. Recipients of this fellowship must have been NC-AATF members for three consecutive years and must commit to join the NC-AATF Conseil Exécutif in a leadership role. Interested members should self-nominate using this form.
Le Concours Pédagogique
NC-AATF Members are invited to submit their favorite and most successful lesson plan to the Concours Pédagogique. Winning entries will be selected on the basis of their interest, their imaginative qualities, and their potential as a model for use by other teachers. The two winning entries will be announced at the spring meeting of NC-AATF and will be published in the NC-AATF Bulletin. Each recipient will receive a certificate and a cash award. In addition, the recipients of the Concours Pédagogique Award will be asked to present their model lessons at upcoming AATF meetings.
