Mathematical Image Processing

The removal of noise and the filling of missing information are two very important topics in image processing, with several applications such as image restoration (fold lines, scratches and noise removal), image coding and wireless image transmission (recovering lost blocks), special effects (removal of objects), Medical imaging. In many cases, the available data of the original image is noisy, which makes it necessary to eliminate the noise and fill-in the blank spaces (those without information). We have developed a number of efficient Partial Differential Equation (PDE) based mathematical models for image restoration.

Currently, we are focusing on the development of hybrid mathematical models for image restoration. Specifically, we are interested in the development of information theory-based image denoising models.
