Welcome to the NCD lab page!
We are a group of enthusiastic scientists trying to understand one of the most complicated creation of nature which is the brain. We are interested in understanding how sensory experiences transform into cognitive maps in the brain and also why do they disrupt in certain mental disorders like Alzheimer's Disease.
Each individual neuron in the brain have a repertoire of different ion-channels which gets the neuron its 'personality'. Furthermore the neurons connect among themselves through synapses in a deterministic way to form circuits in the brain. These circuits interact among themselves in a time-dependent manner to bring about different behavioural phenotypes in an organism. Our ability to comprehend objects, patterns and situations depend on such circuit-level computation that's happening every millisecond in our brain! Hence understanding the neuronal circuits is of paramount importance which helps us understand typical behavioural phenotypes in normal as well as diseased organisms.
We use a variety of tools to approach our questions comprising of behavioural assays, in vivo (highthroughput unit recordings and whole-cell recordings), in vitro (whole-cell recordings) and in silico techniques. To test our hypothesis we use different mouse models and the sense of smell.
