 About National Cadet Corps (NCC)

National Cadets Corps - an institution which was established under the National Cadet Corps Act of 1948. Starting on a small scale, today it has spread its roots to various educational institutions of India. In India, it is operated under three independent organizations - the Army, Navy and Air Force. It is open to school and college students on a voluntary basis. An officer of rank Lieutenant General or equivalent is appointed as Director General of NCC.

The motto of NCC is unity and discipline. Not only does each cadet follows it with the whole heart, but he also adheres to these rules in his daily lifestyle. At the state level NCC has been divided into 17 directorates. Each directorate has hold on up to 2 to 14 group headquarters. NCC flag plays a self-explanatory role for this division. The three colours in the flag depict the three services in the Corps, red for the Army, deep blue for the Navy and light blue for the Air Force. The letters NCC and the NCC crest in gold in the middle of the flag encircled by a wreath of lotus, give the flag a colourfull look and a distinct identity. The lotus represent the seventeen NCC directorates.

Cadets are given basic military training of arms and parades. Cadets from this training not only have physical development, but they learn many things that show them the right path throughout their lives.

NCC training is done through the three examinations it manages. At the school level ‘A’ certificate examination is organized and at the college level ‘B’ and ‘C’ certificate examination are organized. Only those cadets  who have participated in minimum one camp in that particular year are eligibile to write the examination. There are exciting sports such as trekking, mountaineering, cycle expeditions in camp and also activities like debate, lecturette, and other activities for personal development are held. These certificates prove to be very profitable for joining the civil services.

If you want to learn the lesson of staying disciplined and want to do adventures activities in school or college life like a soldier then NCC can be a very good medium. We students of S.V.N.I.T are fortunate that we too got a chance to become a part of this institution.
