Futsal Cuppers Winners 25/26

Futsal Cuppers™️.

Group stage: W8 L2

RO16: 3-0 vs Hughdam 2s

QF: 2-0 vs Merton-Mansfield

SF: 2-0 vs Worcester

Final: 1-1 vs St Catz (5-4 win on penalties)

After NCAFC’s success in Michaelmas and Hilary, we came into Trinity facing a new challenge in futsal Cuppers™️. This was a competition that the club had seen some recent success in, falling short last year to St Catz in the semis - and we knew this year we had what it took to go one better.

It was a relatively comfortable road to the knockouts, barring a few early struggles as we let a 3 goal lead slip vs Hughdam and were beaten by Catz. Their postgame antics made it clear that they weren’t yet over their Cuppers™️ semi finals defeat earlier in the season, and felt there was a score to settle.

We turned up to Iffley on the day of the R016 to find that Hughdam had forfeited, granting us passage into the quarter finals. Never missing the chance to put a few past Balliol, we offered them a friendly and dispatched them 8-1 - business as usual. Onto the quarter finals.

These were more tightly contested – exams and injuries meant the squad was smaller from this point, as we turned up with 6 to be greeted by 12 Merton Mansfield players, including the infamous Grindle™️. No matter, as we saw them off in a comfortable 2-0 win with a brace from No Liquids™️. The semi finals were a similar affair - we faced Worcester, and another disciplined performance took us to a 2-0 win, with another from No Liquids™️ and one from Rolfe.

Catz had won the other semi, and so it was a blockbuster matchup in the final as the two best teams in the uni came face to face once again. We turned up with a bare 5 including no goalkeeper, so Harry Young had to don the gloves. The game was cagey, but when Rolfe opened the scoring with a scrappy goal we knew there was something in it for us. Catz eventually levelled, but as the game went to penalties we were confident. Kristian stepped up to take first, and Déjà vu struck as his penalty was saved. That was all we needed, as we put away all 5 of our penalties to secure futsal Cuppers™️ and an unprecedented quadruple, capping off the best college football season in history.
