At Napier Boys' High School we offer a variety of mathematics courses to suite the needs of all students.
These courses include:
The Year 9 and 10 Junior Mathematics Program is designed to give students the support they need to use math in their every day life and to extend mathematics concepts into the future.
These courses give students enough mathematics and statistics knowledge to enter NCEA Level 1.
Junior Mathematics can be broken down into six key areas which are:
Pre Requisites: There are no pre requisites for these courses.
Additional Requirements: Students are expected to have a Scientific Calculator. Models such as the Casio FX82 and Jastek CS1 or equivalent will be sufficient.
The Mathematics 101 NCEA Level 1 Mathematics Program is designed to give students the support they need to use math in their every day life as well as to extend mathematics concepts into the future.
This course gives students enough mathematics and statistics knowledge to enter either of our NCEA Level 2 Mathematics.
These assessments are:
Pre Requisites: There are no pre requisites for this course. Students will have previously sat the Numeracy assessment. They will have further opportunities to complete this throughout the year.
Additional Requirements: Students are expected to have a Scientific Calculator. Models such as the Casio FX82 and Jastek CS1 or equivalent will be sufficient.
The MATH201 NCEA Level 2 Mathematics Course is designed to extend students mathematics concepts into the future.
This course gives students sufficient mathematics and statistics knowledge to enter any of our NCEA Level 3 Mathematics courses including Calculus, Statistics, or General Mathematics.
The standards in this course are:
Pre Requisites: Students must have 14 Credits at NCEA Level 1 in Mathematics and passed the Numeracy assessment. For further enquires, please contact the HoD of Mathematics Mr. Bishop Edwards.
Additional Requirements: A Graphics Calculator is recommended. Models such as the Casio FX9860GII or Texas Instruments TI-Nspire CX will be sufficient. If there are financial pressures on students which may affect a student choosing this course, please contact the HoD of Mathematics Mr. Bishop Edwards.
The MATH202 NCEA Level 2 Mathematics Course is designed to give students the support they need to use math in their every day life.
This course gives students enough mathematics and statistics knowledge to enter their preferred pathways or our 303 NCEA Level 3 Mathematics.
The standards in this course are:
Pre Requisites: There are no pre requisites for this course. Students will have previously sat the Numeracy assessment. They will have further opportunities to complete this throughout the year.
Additional Requirements: A Graphics Calculator is recommended. Models such as the Casio FX9860GII or Texas Instruments TI-Nspire CX will be sufficient. Students are expected to at least have a Scientific Calculator. Models such as the Casio FX82 and Jastek CS1 or equivalent will be sufficient. If there are financial pressures on students which may affect a student choosing this course, please contact the HoD of Mathematics Mr. Bishop Edwards.
The MATH301 NCEA Level 3 Mathematics with Calculus Course is designed to give students the extension into calculus level mathematics.
This course gives students sufficient preparation to enter pathways beyond school that involve calculus such as engineering, pure mathematics, applied mathematics, or advanced physics courses.
The standards in this course are:
Pre Requisites: Students must have 12 Credits in the Mathematics 201 course at NCEA Level 2 in Mathematics. For further enquires, please contact the HoD of Mathematics Mr. Bishop Edwards.
Additional Requirements: A Graphics Calculator is required for this course. Models such as the Casio FX9860GII or Texas Instruments TI-Nspire CX will be sufficient. If there are financial pressures on students which may affect a student choosing this course, please contact the HoD of Mathematics Mr. Bishop Edwards.
The MATH302 NCEA Level 3 Mathematics with Statistics Course is designed to give students the extension into statistics level mathematics.
This course gives students sufficient preparation to enter pathways beyond school that involve statistics such as the health sciences, epidemiology, biomedical statistics, economics, or applied statistics.
The standards in this course are:
Pre Requisites: Students must have 12 Credits at NCEA Level 2 in Mathematics and passed the Level 2 Probability External to be sufficiently prepared for this course.
The MATH303 NCEA Level 3 General Mathematics Course is designed to give students the mathematics they will need to enter pathways in their future.
This course gives students sufficient preparation to enter pathways beyond school that involve mathematics via a program consisting of mostly internals.
The standards in this course are:
Pre Requisites: There are no pre requisites for this course. To be sufficiently prepared for this course, students are recommended to have passed 12 Credits in the 201 or 202 Mathematics courses.
