The Philippine Milkfish Industry Roadmap (2021-2040) defined the short- (2021-2025), medium- (2026-2030) and long-term (2031-2040) plans for sustainable development of the Philippine milkfish industry. It also outlined the roles and responsibilities of various sectors including the government and non-government agencies, research and academic institutions, as well as the private sector in achieving the common goals and targets set for the industry. The general objective of the roadmap was to gear up the Philippine Milkfish Industry towards global competitiveness and climate change resilience.
Central Luzon Region is considered as one of the key milkfish producing regions in the country. In 2022, Region 3 ranked 2nd in terms of milkfish production with 85, 313 metric tons or about 22% contribution to national production. Region 3 recorded an average annual production growth rate of 6% for the past 5 years. Farmed milkfish mainly came from brackishwater ponds and pens in Pampanga, Bataan, and Bulacan as well as marine cages situated in Zambales.
