SNAP is a Federally funded program that helps low-income families buy nutritious food from local food stores. SNAP assistance is available to qualifying families, elderly people, and single adults. IT’S TRUE! A Texas law went into effect allowing people with felony drug convictions to qualify for the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. Previously, a drug conviction meant a lifetime ban from food stamps. Supporters hope the change will reduce recidivism and enable felons to better integrate into society. But if they don't stick to the rules, recipients risk losing benefits. Violating terms of their paroles would lead to a two-year disqualification. If they re-offend on drug charges, they face a lifetime ban.

## Side note ##
*** Here I noted inconsistencies between the guide, google, and reality - will need to go back and verify everything for updates 2023-2024 versions and beyond ***
*** things need to be kept up to date constantly and consistently if we want this reentry initiative to be successful. if things are not up to date and you give the formerly incarcerated bad information, you are essentially setting them up for failure, which may cause trust issues & relapses back to "criminal" activity ***
