Are you trying to get to the Harbor from the Cemetery? You've come to the right spot! Blue marks on the map to the right indicate locations highlighted on this page. I've currently only mapped the section shown to the right, and I hope to get to the rest of Blakely Harbor Park soon!
We begin this section of trails where the Harbor Trail leaves IslandWood property and crosses Blakely Ave NE at its intersection with NE Country Club Rd, where the map cutout above says "You are here." Start by facing south across the road. As you move down this page, you'll first travel back north up the Switch Back Trail and then east and south around Blakely Harbor Park.
Closest restrooms: Harbor Shelter Bathroom, Mill Workers' Cabin Bathroom, Blakely Harbor Park Bathroom.
Entering Blakely Harbor Park
This street crossing is the most common route IslandWood field groups take to get to and from Blakely Harbor. Through traffic does not stop, so be careful crossing the road!
2. Finding the Trail To the Harbor
This little trail entrance is about 50 feet east of NE Country Club Road. To find it, walk along Blakely Ave NE in the gravel pull-off parking area.
3. Turnoff To the Switch Back Trail
The large blue Blakely Harbor Park sign to the left offers a perfect landmark for the intersection where you can choose to return to IslandWood via IslandWood's Harbor Trail (by going past the Harbor Shelter) or via the Switch Back Trail (past Port Blakely Cemetery and the Mill Workers' Cabin). North will take you to the Switch Back Trail, and west will take you to the Harbor Trail.
4. Blakely Cemetery Trail (a.k.a. Switch Back Trail)
The Switch Back trail is a direct hike from Blakely Harbor Park to Port Blakely Cemetery. It's a bit steeper and narrower than the Spine Trail and is mostly made of mulch and pine rather than gravel. You may cross paths with mountain bikers, horseback riders, or other hikers on this trail!
5. Intersection with Blakely Hills Trails
At this intersection, you'll want to avoid going west onto the trail with more signage. Use the trail navigation tools provided at the intersection to help you out!
5. Port Blakely Cemetery
Clicking through this part of the map will help you get from IslandWood's Cemetery Trail to the Switch Back Trail by walking through Port Blakely Cemetery.
Here you can see the Cemetery Shelter, which can be a great spot to stop for a snack or to set up a cemetery exploration activity. Check out the Learn site for cemetery activity ideas.
