The NatuurOutfits Story:
The NatuurOutfits website is a student-led initiative developed by the Secondary Students from the International School Almere it was launched as part of our school assignment focused on mitigating the greenhouse gas emissions in a specific industry and after conducting detailed yet informative researches we decided to target one of the most pollutive and greenhouse emissive sectors today: the fashion industry.
We were inspired to act because we had an strong belief that people in Almere, if provided with the right tools, guidances and accessible solutions could enormously contribute to a fashion culture that is friendly to both the people and environment. Our vision was simple: make recycling and upcycling clothes easier, more creative while also accessible for everyone as Upcycling especially stood out as a meaningful way that gives old, unused old garments a new life in an creative manner and simultaneously reducing textile wastes and the environmental footprint from purchasing new clothes.
Driven by this belief, we researched extensively and engaged with our community for designing a website with the ability to empowers individuals for participating in fashion movements that’s not only stylish but also sustainable. The website features step-by-step upcycling guides, a digital apparel upcycling simulator, locations for local drop-off points and resources supporting for donating or repurposing clothes, Essentially everything required for making Sustainable Fashion simple and fun.
From community challenges to how-to tutorials, each and every element of the NatuurOutfits is tailored by student passion and purpose. Our project also proves that with creativity, collaboration paired with the right support. Small Actions such as upcycling one t-shirt has potential to inspire systemic change across the entire fashion industry.
