Alpine Challenge
If Mount Elias is the first thing guests notice upon entering the Disney’s Nature’s Wonderland complex, then the second has to be the countless amounts of nets, wooden planks, ropes, and kinetic energy that surrounds all sides of the mountain. This is the Alpine Challenge, a multi-story immersive ropes course that provides daring thrills, immense challenge, and gorgeous scenic views of the entire complex. At points, guests participating in the alpine challenge may be looking down on the fearless climbers of Mount Elias as they themselves brave the heights of the alpine tundra.
This sprawling ropes course is set well within the sequoia forests that make up much of ancient Northern California, with the support beams that make up the main structure modeled after these iconic giant trees. Strung between, around, over, and through these massive faux-trees are countless amounts of bridges to cross, logs to swing on, planks to balance on, and nets to maneuver over, creating a puzzling and challenging experience for everyone brave enough to partake.
Upon purchasing a ticket for the Alpine Challenge, guests are brought into the suit-up room where they are briefed by a short video about safety before being brought into the locker rooms where they are to deposit all handheld items and anything in pockets before being outfitted with a harness, safety rope, and helmet. Once geared up, the challenge begins as guests are ushered onto the course, beginning with a narrow plank walk directly into a series of swinging wood disks hanging by ropes that they must cross. From here, guests follow the marked path through the course, oftentimes offering great views of what goes on throughout the complex including a tunnel over the archery tag gym and a bridge passing by a window looking towards Disney‘a Grand Californian resort. At its highest peak, the Alpine Challenge reaches 55 feet high.
