As your doula, my role is to offer continuous emotional, physical, and informational support. I’m here to help you feel safe, confident, and cared for as you navigate your birth experience. While I bring knowledge, grounding energy, and practical tools, there are some things that fall outside of my scope of practice.
🚫 I don’t perform any medical tasks.
This includes things like checking blood pressure, fetal heart tones, performing vaginal exams, or diagnosing medical conditions. My role is focused on non-clinical support—helping you feel physically comfortable, emotionally supported, and informed every step of the way.
🚫 I don’t make decisions for you.
You are the expert of your own body and experience. I’ll help you gather information, understand your options, and feel confident in making the choices that are best for you and your family. If things shift away from your original birth plan, I’ll be there to gently remind you of your goals and help you navigate the changes.
🚫 I don’t speak on your behalf to medical staff.
While I can help you prepare for conversations and suggest questions to ask, you or your partner will be the ones to communicate directly with your care team. I’m here to support you in using your voice, not to replace it.
A doula is a non-medical support person, but that doesn’t mean we’re not part of the care team! I strive to foster a respectful, collaborative atmosphere with the nurses, midwives, and doctors who are supporting your birth.
🤝 I work with your medical team, not against them.
I respect the role of clinical staff and aim to build positive, professional rapport with everyone involved in your care.
🎯 I help you advocate for yourself with confidence.
I encourage open, respectful communication and can support you in voicing your needs, asking questions, and staying aligned with your birth preferences.
🌸 I protect the emotional space.
My presence helps create a calm, supportive environment that honors both hospital guidelines and your personal autonomy. I work to ensure that your birth space feels safe, empowered, and aligned with your values.
