PREDECESSORS AND SHORT HISTORY:This misl is the only misl that was expelled from the Dal Khalsa, due to its anti Sikh policies in the time of Baba Deep Singh and Nawab Kapur Singh. This misl was founded by Baba Ala Singh in 1748 (later the first Raja of Patiala). Their territory in 1758 was Rajpura, Bathinda, Sangrur, Tohana and Sirhind. The two main divisions in territory between the misls were between those who were in the Malwa region and those who were in the Majha region. While eleven of the misls were north of the Sutlej river, one, the Phulkian Misl was south of the Sutlej. The Sikhs north of the Sutlej river were known as the Majha Sikh while the Sikhs that lived south of the Sutlej river were known as the Malwa Sikhs. Members were....

• Chaudhury Mohan, he moved to Nathana to avoid further clashes with Rajput Bhatis, later he founded the village of Mehraj in 1627 on the advice of the Sixth Guru, Guru Hargobindji, married and had issue. He was killed in 1631 (1618).

• Chaudhury Kala, Chaudhury 1618/-, guardian of his nephews, he founded the village of Kalyanwali in Sirsa, married and had issue.

      • Mai Fatto (possibly aunt of Gurbakhsh Singh) [Rani Fateh Kaur of Patiala], married Maharaja Ala Singh, Maharaja of Patiala, and had issue. She died 1773.

      • Mai (name unknown), married Bhai Ram Dyal of Sadhowal, and had issue.

        • Bhai Gurbakhsh Singh, he served as Diwan of Patiala to Maharaja Ala Singh, married and had issue. He died 1760 (see Sidhu Family and Kaithal, Jhamba and Arnauli)

• Chaudhury Phul, born 1627, he founded Rampura Phul, he fought with the Sixth Guru, Guru Hargobindji, against Mughal Delhi in the battle of Gurusar, married 1stly, Chaudhrani Rail [Bali], daughter of a zamindar of Dhilwari in Nabha territory, married 2ndly, Chaudhrani Rajji of Sidhani, and had issue, six sons and one daughter (see Sidhu-Brar Bans). He died at Bahadurpur in Nabha state on 28th January 1689, and was cremated at the village of Phul.

  • Chaudhury Rama Singh (by Rail), baptized with Khande da amrit at the hands of the Tenth Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh at Damdama Sahib, he raided the territories of the Bhatis and the Muslim Chief of Kot and captured both Bhatian and Kot, he founded Bhai Rupa in 1680 and built Rampur, married Chaudhrani Sabi, daughter of Bhuttar, zamindar of Nanun, and had issue, six sons, the Patiala, Bhadaur, Kot Duna and Malaudh families. He was killed at Maler Kotla in 1714.

    • Chaudhury Duna, founder of the estate of Bhadaur, married and had issue (see Bhadaur and Kot Duna). He died 1726.

    • Subha Singh, married and had issue, one son. He died 1729.

      • Jodh Singh, married Mai Deso (married 2ndly, Maharaja Ala Singh of Patiala). He died 1729.
