National Statistics Competition

National Statistics Competition (NSC) is one of the events organised by Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Mathematical Sciences Society since 2007. The purpose of this competition is to foster the proficiency of Higher-order Thinking Skills (HOTS) among the youth in the age range of 17 to 20. HOTS is believed to be a much-needed skill in their working life. This is an effort from USM Mathematical Sciences Society to prepare a platform for the youth to be able to master a range of important cognitive skills including critical thinking, reasoning, creative thinking in solving problems using Mathematics, especially the probability theory. 

OBJECTIVES 

• To cultivate the interest of students toward Statistics. 

• To encourage students to think more critically and creatively to solve Statistical problems. 

• To inspire pre-university students to further their studies in Mathematics, especially Statistics. 

TARGETED PARTICIPANTS 

• Open to all pre-university Malaysian students (matriculation, STPM, A-level), college and university students which are in the age range of 17-20 years old.
