The goal of this technical GIS national virtual workshop is to explore opportunities, challenges and obstacles in a practical way to inform a national dynamic map of eelgrass distribution in Canada that is publicly accessible, dynamic, and useful for monitoring and collective decision-making.
Draft agenda available here.
December 8, 2021
1:00 PM AST, 1:30 NDT, 9:00 AM PDT
Participants are welcome to join the meeting 15 minutes earlier to test the Microsoft Teams link, and make sure everything runs smoothly. Feel free to turn on your camera for an informal meet & greet before the workshop starts!
The workshop will be divided in different interactive sessions with the intention of maximizing participation and diversity of ideas. A brief summary of the workflow is available in this link.
Break-out groups will allow participants to do a deep-dive into key questions that are relevant to guide next steps of developing a national dynamic map of eelgrass distribution in Canada that is publicly accessible, dynamic, and useful for monitoring and collective decision-making. During the break-out groups, all participants will have access to a google doc (available here) to document material and advice. Some of the break-out groups will be using real eelgrass data to explore real mapping challenges (more information about the example data that will be used is available here). Break-out groups will report highlights back to the plenary session to gather advice and feedback from all participants.
Interactive whiteboard to facilitate the plenary session by allowing participants to contribute with virtual sticky notes, ideas and advice (available here). The plenary will provide an opportunity for all participants to contribute with ideas and advice for all the key questions identified for this workshop.
