National PAL is partnering with the Maxwell Leadership Foundation to bring values-based youth leadership transformation to PAL chapters across the nation.
iLead was designed by Dr. John C. Maxwell to develop students’ values and leadership skills in peer to peer Transformation Tables. The format allows students to get experience leading as they take turns facilitating sessions.
Each lesson contains a short teaching on a value or leadership characteristic, asks students to evaluate how well they practice the characteristic, and encourages them to commit to one action step for the week that will allow them to improve their rating in that area.
In today’s world of often disruptive change, uncertainty and flagging well-being, the need for resilient leaders capable of bringing about powerful positive change is undeniable. According to a study by Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health researchers, a higher prevalence of school discipline and school-based police contact is found among students who have higher levels of substance use and depressed feelings. Although there are myriad approaches to focusing on student wellbeing that can be beneficial, values-based leadership development can be used to encourage both a resilient mindset and actions that lead to flourishing.
