Working as a design editor for Color Me, I put in lots of energy behind the scenes to make sure spreads with other peoples' names turned out just as good as the spreads with my name on them. But still, I was assigned my own work, and my own work I did. Trying some new things while sometimes sticking with the old, here is my design work from Color Me:
I proudly take credit for the concept and design of the index for Color Me, below
Colophon
Creating the colophon for Color Me was both an honor and a delight. Every staff member chose a color and gave a quote as to what that color meant to them/why they chose it. Working with less guidelines and more freedom made me feel even more confident in a design that I knew was all my own.
Student Life: Clubs Feature
This clubs spread was another in which I was able to design with more freedom, not having to worry about as many guidelines for alignment or proximity. I think this is a great example of how versatile the design can become for the same content; this spread was much too strict before we decided to take a leap of faith and mix it up, making something that would pop and catch people's attention.
Student Life: Winter Formal, Special snow day coverage
After 9 snow days, our staff was struggling to find time and get everything together. Making the best with what we had, I planned and executed a spread which captured the beautiful, unique experiences everyone has on their days off in the snow, and tied it all together with a picture from our Winter Dance (which is generally not an event we cover).
Halloween Interruption spread
Interruption spreads were a new concept which were not part of my first yearbook experience. Each interruption spread took a break from 'normal' coverage and made space for events that wouldn't usually be covered. There were only 6 interruption spreads throughout our book, and working on this spooky masterpiece was some of the most fun I've had designing.
While I definitely had a lot of fun working on special coverage spreads, there's also a bit of comfort in seeing spreads that do follow design guidelines to a T. From Color Me, here are the other six spreads I worked on throughout the year
