The hammer project: We are casting with aluminum a hammer we made and designed.
For the hammer project I wanted to make Jinx's Hammer from league of Legends, a game I play
To start I had to redesign the hammer to fit in the parameters I was given to make a hammer.
After redesigning the hammer I made two hammer heads that were removeable. Via threads on the backs of them.
Then I had to rapid prototype my hammer using plastic 3D printing to see if my handle, hammer head, and threads worked and looked good.
Finishing the rapid printed meant that I could print the resin version of my hammer that would be used to make a mold for casting the hammer.
I also printed the TPU and nylon of my two attachable heads
While printing the two heads I also printed runners for the casting process, so that aluminum can get into air pockets.
Unfortunately we ran out of time at this point to cast the hammer, but I still continued on i just wouldn't be able to have the finished project.
Here is the rough programm for my hammer cast
These are the soft jaws I designed to be able to use the rotarty table on a 3 axis mill. Because I was using a rotarty table the jaws had to be a circle so that it could grab fully on the part.
After casting I would subtractive machine my hammer to clean off the runners and make the mating face where the hammer heads would connect flat.
I then designed a wall mounted hook for my hammer.
