Marion Sternquist Memorial Scholarship

Marion Sternquist, a believer in God the Father, His Son, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit as the Triune God, baptized member of Nathanael Lutheran Church, and a lifelong elementary teacher and believer that everyone should develop their talents and skills to the best of their ability, desired that monies she bequeathed to Nathanael Lutheran Church be utilized for furthering one’s education.

The family of Marion Sternquist- Wilma Holmstrom, Arla Roduner, and Orland Sternquist-desire that the moneys bequeathed to Nathanael Lutheran Church by Marion be utilized to establish a “Marion Sternquist Memorial Educational Scholarship” within the Church Endowment Fund.

Purpose: The purpose of this scholarship is to assist a student or students who:

1. Has/have determined their course of study

2. Who has/have successfully completed at least two years of higher learning, or who is rehabilitating his/her life after a major setback, be it from injury, major illness, divorce, family death, etc.

3. Who is/ are in most need of financial assistance to complete their schooling

Eligibility:

1. Any one desiring to further his/her education and develop his/her talents and abilities at a credited institution of higher learning, i.e. college, university, trade school

2. Any present or past member of Nathanael Lutheran Church.

Qualifications:

1. Must have graduated from high school or received a high school equivalency with a grade point “average or above,” and has completed two years of post high school education at an accredited institution or technical school

2. Scholarship granting priority- students dedicating their future to being:

a. An educator- elementary, followed by middle school, high school, or special education

b. Lutheran Ministry- minister, church-youth counselor, missionary, music coordinator, etc.

c. Medical practitioner- nurse, NP, PA, MD, DDS, DO, chiropractor

Scholarship Grants:

The financial grant year will be from July 1 through June 30th. Financing for the scholarship grants will be in accordance with the policies of the Nathanael Endowment Fund to provide as follows:

1. One or two scholarships from a single year’s income

2. A scholarship recipient may reapply to receive the scholarship the following year, or any year thereafter.

3. In the event there is no scholarship awarded in any one year the funds can be retained in the scholarship fund.

4. The scholarship award will be sent to the college registrar to apply towards tuition or other fees.
