Madison Experimental Mathematics Lab
In Spring 2024, with graduate student Becky Eastham, I led an undergraduate research project with the Madison Experimental Mathematics Lab. The group of 5 students learned about topics metric geometry, specifically polygonal norms, horofunction boundaries, and stars at infinity. They explored new examples and proved partial results towards a general conjecture on the stars of polygonal norms. You can see the poster they made here:
In Spring 2022, with graduate student Caitlyn Booms, I led an undergraduate research project on random walks in groups. The students discovered new trends in random walks on the Heisenberg group. You can see the poster they made here.
Delta Research Mentoring Learning Community
In Fall 2023, I am enrolled in a 10-week seminar run by the Delta Program at UW-Madison to learn about about mentoring strategies and to practice being more intentional in my mentor/mentee relationships.
Geometric Group Theory Reading Seminar
At Tufts University and UW-Madison, I have organized reading seminars for graduate students and others interested in geometric group theory. Topics have included Bass-Serre Theory, the Geometrization Conjecture, and CAT(0) Cube Complexes.
PROMYS Math Circle
From January 2017 to December 2019, I led a PROMYS Math Circle, first at Boston Preparatory Charter Public School in Hyde Park, then Somerville High School, and finally through a virtual format. I developed challenging exploratory problem sets – on topics ranging from introductory number theory, to metric geometry and logic problems – and led a small group of students from underrepresented backgrounds. The program helped students explore math in a creative way, sharing their ideas from their seats and at the board, building their confidence.
Directed Reading Program at Tufts University
During Summer 2017 I led an undergraduate in a project on linear programming as part of the Tufts Directed Reading Program. As my mentee, Astrid Weng, was an economics major, our goal was to understand a few important applications of linear programming. The project culminated in a colloquium talk given by three undergraduates in the program.
In 2018 I helped organize the the Directed Reading Program.
Tufts Organization of Graduate Students in Mathematics
For the 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 academic years, I was the President of the Organization of Graduate Students in Mathematics (OGSM) . OGSM has three essential goals: to foster community within the department, to provide professional development opportunities, and to serve as a liaison between faculty and graduate students. To that end, I invited speakers to our bi-weekly meetings to talk about research within the department, about how to prepare an academic job application, and about the transition into industrial jobs, among other topics. I also oversaw a mentorship program for first year students, helped organize a Pi Day math competition for local high school students, and hosted other activities to build departmental community.
