My professional goals are to become a well known and well respected physical education teacher in a community and to build up myself and that place throughout my career. I would love to stay in one district/area so I can make an impact on the entire community over time and keep and grow connections with everyone. I would also hope to become a coach of some sort and organize or assist in some after school gatherings/clubs relating to health and fitness. My core beliefs relating to physical education all correspond with educating others on how important and fun movement can be and inspiring them to apply it to their lives. I believe everyone should have some level of movement and activity every day and I believe physical health and wellness should be prioritized as much as mental health and education as it will only aid those subjects. I believe kids should be shown the value and fun in physical activity from a young age, and the increase in technology in our society is detrimental to this. Furthermore, I believe playing sports is not just about competition; you can learn many valuable life skills through sports such as perseverance, leadership, communication skills, empathy, and much more. I also believe there should be an emphasis on finding every student's favorite way(s) to move and be active as this leads to physical activity happening outside of school when they find a passion, rather than forcing kids to do something they may or may not like; leading to a lack of interest in physical activity. Lastly, I believe we should teach nutritional health from a young age so kids can get a grasp on it early and have an idea of how to be healthy inside and out. I believe everything you value and teach as an educator should emphasize instilling a love for physical activity and health into kids rather than just keeping them active for the time you do have them during the school day. It is a tough balance, but if you can help them to be physically active throughout their life, especially from a young age where they are learning all about themselves and what they enjoy; that will be infinitley more valuable than just during their time in school.Â
