Narrative Game || Explorative || Queer || Game Writer || Level Designer
Ongoing project that will be showcased at NZGDC, started in March 2025.
Role: Narrative Lead, Co-Tech Lead, Level Design Lead
Dialogue and cutscenes in a game setting. Skill with implementing separate character arcs, the way they feed into the overall narrative and player backstory, and understanding of the way story and mechanics feed into each other in the player experience.
A section of a larger board where the team have worked together on Runaway. This board is designed so that we all have separate sections for our roles, and is structured in a way that other team members can easily access information.
Knowledge of and familiarity with Unreal Engine dialogue systems. I coded the dialogue system for Runaway, and as this is a narrative game, this feature is constantly being improved upon and altered to suit the experience we want players to have with our game. A huge part of this is constructing and implementing data tables in-engine.
Novel Trilogy || Queer || Medieval Fantasy || Planning || Dedicatation to Long-term Project
Ongoing novel project (2023-Present), a complex medieval fantasy trilogy.
Role: Planning, Writing, Plotting, Editing
This novel project employs the use of script as well as book, as the first draft I write is always a script. This helps nail story beats, lock down everything that needs to happen to create a satisfying experience, and allows me freedom to explore the project as I go instead of being trapped by the initial concept, which translates well into the shifting and interactive nature of game writing.
Excerpt Example of Dialogue and Cutscene. Familiarity with D&D, medieval fantasy, and character relationships.
This is an excerpt of a longer narrative piece, the scrtipt draft of a chapter from the third book in a medieval fantasy trilogy. The program used is Celtx.
Example of the iterative process of translating script to book. This book segment is a reflection of the prior script example.
A section of a larger board where I have been planning this trilogy in depth, communicating between different areas and ensuring my pacing is maintained both in maintaned individual arcs and books, plus the overall experience.
Novel || Queer || Fantasy || Planning and Iteration || Self-published
Novel written in 2022, and self-published in 2023.
Role: Planning, Writing, Plotting, Editing, Commissioning, Publishing, Marketing
Example of dialogue and storytelling in a published medium that has had positive feedback from readers. In comparison to Drowning in the Shadows, this shows how much my writing has grown and developed since this was written in 2022 and published in 2023.
Book publication, especially self-publishing, relies a lot on organisation and timelines. Through this project, I have had to organise beta readers, feedback, iterative editing, hiring an editor, cover and map commissions, and copyright contracts when applicable.
