LMP III: REACTIONS

Red Cross Hands-Only CPR, May 13, 2022

On May 13th, 2022, Mr. Ambros came into our classroom and gave us a presentation that could save lives (literally). He gave us a presentation and discussion on what Red Cross is and what they do there. And after that, he taught us hands-only CPR and how to do it the right way. We all had a chance to practice this procedure on the CPR dolls he had there for us. As we did this, Mr. Chong played "Staying Alive" to help us keep in beat with the pumping on the CPR dolls.

The experience of that entire moment was overall fun and interesting, especially with the stories and discussions Mr. Ambros gave us. I now know that some scenes in shows or movies were in fact doing it all wrong and tat they need to take Mr. Ambros' presentation to learn more about it. I personally thought that I did a pretty good job in staying in beat as well as having a good form and hopefully one day I can try and use my knowledge in some other serious situations.

Bed Making! - February 14, 2022

Thanks to Aizel, Mr. Chong decided to finally to teach us how to properly make a bed! During his teaching, we learned about the three sheet method and how to do a miter. It was a fun experience, especially seeing how all of us were amazed by how neat and tidy the bed was afterwards. After he instructed us how to do so, we all took our turns in doing the same procedure and through that, we learned some key things in forming a proper bed and how to remove common wrinkles on the bed.

This experience was very fun and entertaining. It also incorporated good teamwork where we all helped out how to fix it well. I personally had fun doing the miter part simply because of how that one fold can make the entire bed look well made. I also had lots of fun taking pictures of my peers doing the work and having some struggles on doing so. I felt like this was a good strategy at making our class work together and it was nice knowing we are still capable of helping one another out while still having fun. This was a great activity and I hope we can do more so like this.

Mrs. Carol Cruz's GCC Presentation - February 5, 2021

Mrs. Cruz's presentation was a well needed one, especially for me. It focused solely on the GCC Hospitality programs and its history, growth, and the steps towards being in the program. For me, it was a well needed presentation since I was terribly lost about where I wanted to go after high school. One thing I was most lost about is how I will be getting into their college. While all of my friends already had their path planned out, I was still sitting down and wondering what I wanted to do with myself.

One thing I was most surprised to learn about during the presentation was the opportunity for me to only have classes two times a week. But as Mr. Chong said, it takes planning and readiness. Another thing that caught my eye was the chance to be part of the study abroad program where we can go schooling in different countries. This caught me and my fellow classmates attention since that would also give us a chance at traveling and learning about the other countries. All in all, I really enjoyed the discussion with Mrs. Cruz, she was a great presenter and had he sweetest voice ever. I want to thank Mr. Chong for bringing her to our class because I'd still be lost right now if it weren't for him.

Dr. Betances and Dr. B’s Presentation - November 6, 2021

This presentation was a great refresher from last Summer in our Summer Mentorship Program. In this presentation, I was reminded of how important self-love and self-confidence is key to our success. In order to believe in our abilities and make others believe in us, we must learn to trust in what we are capable of and show others that we are confident in making our dreams become a reality. With the diversity of our society, it is highly recommended that we learn another language. Not only does that increase our intelligence, but also makes others see that we respect their language and form some sort of bond with them. I was also reminded of how reading books are essential for a successful future. We can learn an abundance of things from a single book and increase our word power and knowledge.

I was relieved to be reminded of these important words from those two. Having Dr. Betances and Dr. B discuss the importance of our future success was a great reminder that I still need a lot of guidance and wisdom from my mentors. I was also reminded that seeking help from mentors was key and beneficial to a bright and happy future of success. All in all, I was glad to hear them explain to us how important it is that we must learn to learn and learn to gain trust in not only ourselves but with others.

CTE Counselor, Mrs. Oliveros' Presentation - October 23, 2021
Mrs. Oliveros' presentation was a good refresher, especially because we haven't had her presentation since freshmen year. In this presentation, she mostly discussed her experiences through college and her journey through finding a major that fitted her. What surprised me is the benefits I could get from different programs she was conversing with us about, such as FAFSA, DCAPS, etc. I guess I haven't listened to that discussion in freshmen year because I really wasn't focused on what I wanted as my future, but I believe that now is the right time for me to think and plan about what I want to do in my life. Another surprise hat caught is how many times she changed major, I did not know you were able to change your major several times and that part of her story was what caught my ears.

I felt really relieved after her presentation, it gave me a sense of reassurance that I do have a chance of having a life that I will enjoy. When she mentioned that college isn't for everyone, I felt at ease hearing that. I am happy to know that I am capable of changing majors and finding a career that would fit me. I am excited to see what programs could help benefit me in college and I hope to seek a good colleges that could help me figure out what I want to do in my independent life. And if things suddenly shift and I change my mind about college (which I most likely won't) I am relieved to know that college isn't for everyone and that there are other chances for me.
