Curriculum Requirement Reminders

There are an increasing number of annual requirements for school districts. As a helpful reminder, some of the requirements specific to curriculum, instruction, and assessment are listed below.

Nebraska Reading Improvement Act - NEW Section 79-2607 was added this year (24-25). This section adds a professional development requirement. Elementary schools and early childhood education programs shall ensure that teachers who teach children from four years of age through third grade and are adequately trained regarding evidence-based reading instruction to effectively instruct students in reading. Nebraska Revised Statute 79-11, 157.01 - Last year (23-24) was the first reporting year for early reading. Note that NDE is making some changes in reporting for 24-25 (NDE NebraskaReads)
