The Numerical Analysis Research Cluster (NARC) is a vibrant academic community dedicated to advancing research, collaboration, and innovation in numerical analysis, scientific computing, and applied mathematics. Based in Nigeria and open to the world, NARC provides a platform for students, researchers, and professionals to connect, share ideas, and drive impactful research through regular seminars and collaborative initiatives.
The Numerical Analysis Research Cluster (NARC) was founded in January 2025 by Julius Osato Ehigie, a computational and applied mathematician at the University of Lagos, Nigeria. The idea for NARC was born out of a desire to build a vibrant community dedicated to advancing research in numerical analysis and scientific computing within Nigeria and beyond.
In the early stages of planning, Julius engaged in insightful discussions with Dr. Musa Demba of the Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil, while Miss Festa Ndubuogaranya played a pivotal role as the programme assistant. The cluster also received valuable support from Professor Solomon Okunuga, whose suggestions helped shape the initial direction of the initiative.
Seeking international collaboration and visibility, Julius contacted CIMPA, who connected him with Professor Sidi-Mahmoud Kaber. This collaboration led to the invitation of the first foreign speaker, Prof. Luis Almeida to the NARC seminar series, marking an important milestone in the cluster's development.
During his visit to the Isaac Newton Institute in May 2025, Julius was introduced by the Director, Professor Ulrike, to Professor Patrick Farrell of the University of Oxford. Professor Farrell kindly agreed to co-organise the NARC seminar series, bringing in innovative ideas and fresh perspectives that continue to enrich the numerical analysis community in Nigeria.
NARC now runs regular seminars held on the third Wednesday of each month at 4:00 PM (time negotiable). These seminars provide a platform for computational scientists, PhD students, and researchers to share their work, exchange ideas, and address challenges in all areas of scientific computing, data science, and numerical analysis.
We welcome all with an interest in these fields to be part of our growing community!
