ABSTRACT
The Malaysian government has put a lot of efforts into addressing the issue of abandoned housing in Malaysia. Those efforts were taken to ensure the development of housing property completed on time, as well as protecting housing purchasers’ rights. However, the abandoned housing cases have increased in attempt to fulfil the demand and supply gap at the national housing level. Thus, to better understand the issue, this paper seeks potential solutions in tackling the abandoned housing project development. This was done by identifying the factors that contribute to the occurrence of abandoned housing in Malaysia based on a thorough review of literatures from various published articles and thesis dissertations. This paper analysed through a diverse discipline from project management, construction cash flow, financial, government policy, rules and legal act, and spatial location. The analysis found that the housing developer financial management was a critical factor contributing to the development of abandoned housing project. Therefore, the government agencies’ monitoring is crucial during the construction stages to ensure that the development is on track and well progressed.
