ABSTRACT
The growth of information technology, the emergence of sustainability, and the increasingly competitive and complex property management business environment have changed the knowledge, technical skills, and competencies required of today's property management professionals.
The competency requirements for a professional property manager include advanced technical knowledge, a good grasp of business operations, and a working knowledge of the real estate business environment. The ability to integrate different business concepts, apply sustainability principles, be cost-effective, and uphold strong ethical foundations are essential elements of a successful professional property manager.
In response to these challenges, this research report focuses on identifying the professional competencies expected of various personnel in the property management team. This report details the steps and processes involved in producing a Competency Framework for property management professionals and team members. The outcome of this research project is A Guide to the Competency Framework for the Property Management Industry. This guide is a separate, independent document from this report.
The framework introduces a generic competency framework related to property management professionals and supporting staff. It consists of Foundational Competencies and Core Competencies, which are essential for any property management personnel.
It is hoped that the framework will provide a basis for future research that investigates detailed aspects of competencies related to property management professionals.
