Nitra, Slovakia
Nitra is Naperville's first sister city. Check this out: https://youtu.be/3UXaaHAKfrI to know more!
A decommissioned Naperville ambulance has been donated to Ukraine, an initiative made possible with communications assistance from our sister city, Nitra.
The project began when Councilwoman Gustin identified the need and opportunity to help, then engaged Pat Merryweather of the Naperville Rotary and Fire Chief Mark Puknaitis. Both were instrumental in equipping the ambulance and establishing its transport to Ukraine.
This life-saving vehicle, which would have otherwise been sold at auction for approximately $2,500, is now in Ukraine saving many lives.
Cancun, Mexico
Cancun was chosen as a Sister City partially because of the similarities to Naperville. Both cities offer visitors shopping and entertainment opportunities, are college towns and Naperville and Cancun have a strong and growing economy.
In addition to similarities, Cancun was chosen because the city already had an active Sister Cities Commission and the cities have worked together in the past, with Naperville donating a Fire Department ladder truck and an ambulance to Cancun. These existing connections will make it easier to fulfill the Sister Cities’ mission to encourage cultural exchange between the two communities and establish lasting educational and economic ties.
