Pack 105 began its hiking program in 2016. This program provides regularly-scheduled pack hikes at local area preserves, trails, etc. Hiking leaders review basics of hiking before each hike. Scouts take turns performing jobs associated with hiking. Scouts can earn rewards based on the number of miles they have hiked.
Miles accrued may NOT be associated with hikes required for Rank achievements or electives. For example, Tigers in the Wild requires a hike with a parent/adult. Any miles earned for this achievement would NOT count towards the Junior Hiking program.
Miles accrued may be completed either with the pack hiking program or earned outside of scouting (i.e. family hikes, etc).
Hiking miles would include distance accrued during long, possibly vigorous, walks on trails and footpaths. This does NOT include walks such as going to/from school, walking the dog, jogging/running, etc..
Miles accrued:
during pack hikes will be recorded by the Hiking Coordinator. No further action is needed by the scout.
during hikes performed outside of pack hikes must be approved by both the parent/guardian and Hiking Coordinator. A Hiking Log must be submitted by filling out the form (https://forms.gle/yhxTi9Q4drA5hGfP8)
Rewards are include patches, hiking sticks, and hiking stick shields.
