Mundo Citizen

In 2012, Mundo Citizen started as a blog to document my post-deportation journey and to explore contemporary issues in the field of migration from perspectives often unheard of – the voices of migrants themselves. Over time, it became a platform and part of various initiatives I undertook to merge research, social action, and digital activism to influence public conversations about the post-deportation experience and struggles of returned migrants in Mexico.  It garnered interest from media outlets and academia, and it became a resource for those interested in deportation studies.

For 11 years, Mundo Citizen featured content on transborder activism and the social injustices that migrants are subjected to due to the increasingly restrictive immigration policies in the Americas and beyond. 

Although it is no longer active, I have centralized some of my favorite articles on this page that I still find relevant to the deportee experience and for advocacy work around the issue.  You can also check out the Published Work section where I highlight scholarly publications and memoir essays, some of which started as a blog post.

Writing a migrant memoir is something I have been thinking about for a long time, and as I give closure to this blog, I hope to take inspiration from all these years of writing and transform it into a personal narrative and a story of belonging and healing.
