Prof. Nana Ewusi-Mensah is a Soil Scientist (Soil Microbiology) at the Department of Crop and Soil Sciences, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, Ghana.
From 2010 till 2020, he has worked towards improving his professional reputation through local and international workshops/seminars and conferences. In 2016, he won an African young scientist fellowship award organized by the Association of Commonwealth Universities to participate in the Climate Impacts Research Capacity and Leadership Enhancement (CIRCLE) in sub-Saharan Africa program, an initiative of the UK's Department for International Development to develop his research skills in the field of climate change and its impacts on development. His current research focuses on investigating how soil management practices impact climate change. Other research interests are; rhizobiology and bio-waste waste management. Since 2010, he has produced over 50 peer-reviewed papers in reputable journals. Following his collaborative prowess, he has won over $2M through research grant proposals since his appointment.
At the Department of Crop and Soil Sciences, where he was a former Head of Department, he teaches (Advanced Soil Microbiology, Integration and Application of Soil Science and Soil Chemistry and Microbiology) at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He has successfully supervised over 50 honors, 15 MPhil, and 14 PhD students in varying research topics (Biological Nitrogen Fixation, Integrated Soil Fertility Management, composting, biochar, and climate change, microbial biomass dynamics, P-nutrition in legumes, and microbial inoculant use in legume cropping systems). He has served as Chairman and member of several committees/units at both national and international levels. In his spare time, he actively engages staff in tools that can be used for effective online pedagogical activities.
In 2021, Prof. Nana Ewusi-Mensah was nominated as an institutional champion to participate in a one-year online course hosted at Arizona State University, USA as part of the e-learning initiative under the Mastercard Foundation Scholars program. Following successful completion, He was awarded a certificate in Instructional design and performance assessment. The training offered him skillsets in the design and use of innovative 21st-century digital educational technologies and modern trends in online pedagogy. He now acts as a training consultant for corporate institutions/organizations who seek to use digital solutions to stay relevant in a technology-driven economy.
Prof. Nana Ewusi-Mensah is also the Director of Stepping Stone Christian School, (Website) an accredited Grade A school with a unique academic program hinged on the upgraded Ghana Education Service curriculum and appropriate sections of the Cambridge International program to give learners an international perspective. In 2020, he won the prestigious Ghana Industry CEO awards in Primary School Education.
Prof. Nana Ewusi-Mensah is happily married to Mrs. Doris Ewusi-Mensah, a lovely wife of his youth and their marriage union is blessed with four wonderful children; Papa Kwesi Nana Ewusi-Mensah, Kwesi Ewusi-Mensah, Anna Nhyira Ewusi-Mensah and Papa Kwesi Ewusi-Mensah.
