Vanni Lughi (PhD Materials, University of California at Santa Barbara) is associate professor of materials at the University of Trieste, Department of Engineering and Architecture, and holds the national qualification ("abilitazione") as full professor.
He has worked on piezoelectric thin film growth for MEMS-based bulk acoustic resonators and on zirconia-based thermal barrier coatings in aerospace applications. His current research and teaching activity focuses on nanostructured materials, mainly for energy-related and environmental applications. Recently, he started researching more systemic and interdisciplinary aspects of photovoltaic systems and renewable energy sources.
Vanni Lughi is faculty member of the Graduate School of Nanotechnology, director of the School on Energy "Giacomo Ciamician", member of the Technical and Scientific Committee of LAMA FVG (Laboratory for Advanced Mechatronics), and member of the Scientific Committee of the Collegio Universitario di Merito “Luciano Fonda".

Alessandro Massi Pavan is Senior Research Associate and Adjunct Professor at the University of Trieste where he teaches Power Systems and Circuit Theory. He holds the national academic qualification ("abilitazione") in Power Systems and Circuit Theory.
Alessandro has also been working in numerous projects in the private sector and in fifteen years of activity was involved in the installation of almost 1GW of hydro and solar power plants. As Head of the Engineering Office in one of the largest worldwide system integrator, he gained the expertise developed in two of the largest countries in the solar sector, Italy and Germany.
Alessandro coordinates the Summer School on Energy Giacomo Ciamician and is a Senior Member of IEEE.
