ISSUE 4: BLACK TRANS POWER

Accepting submissions from Black trans/non-binary/intersex creators *only*

Email us at nameandnone@gmail.com or message us on social media with questions.

We pay every contributor through a combination of crowdfunding and our personal incomes. We believe that part of the responsibility of having a platform is honoring our contributors through payment, although our financial capacity is limited. We have successfully funded all prior issues, and we hope to significantly raise our rates for issue 4. Though our budget is small and our staff is volunteer, we encourage open negotiation on rates.

PITCH US A COVER STORY. We are looking for a writer who can speak to what this year, and all of its complications, has meant for Black trans people. This can be personal, political, historical, interview-based, or all of the above. The prompt below the submission form on this page can provide further inspiration. $250 base rate for 1,500-2,000 words. Previous publication experience not required, but do include writing samples with your pitch.

We're also seeking:

Cover Art. We're seeking striking images that depict Black Trans Power for our issue 4 cover (if you don't have an image already but do have an idea, email us with samples). We're partial to single-subject portrait photography but group portraits, art, and more will all be considered. $200 base rate (negotiable). Submit an image or series of images through our submissions form. Must be high-res enough to be printed at 8.5x11.

Art/Photography. Please send us any art, photography, and visual media that speaks to the theme. $25/image, potentially more for fine art.

Comics. We love publishing comics, and would like to find one or more multi-page works for our next issue. Due to the nature of comics and the unique labor of its creative teams, our rates are negotiable on a case-by-case basis. Please leave a note in your submission form about desired payment or email us with samples of prior work.

Fiction and Non-fiction: $50 for minimum 750 words.

Poetry. $15 for one poem. Please send multiple, but know we're likely to only accept one.

Other. Email us.

A couple other notes: we will consider previously published work on a case-by-case basis. Simultaneous submissions are generally fine, but please do inform us if something has been accepted elsewhere.

As a community, we’ve felt the negative brunt of power for centuries. From economic to political and emotional to physical, we’ve struggled to find power in our favor. Despite the fervent impossibilities those in power have held over us, we have still survived. We’ve built a community of survivors. Each day we survive, our power prevails over our trauma.

Issue 4 is a discussion of the power in community. The goal of this issue is to combat trauma, oppression, and those currently in power through our power. Power is in opposition to trauma and oppression. Power is freedom and peace. Power is justice and liberation. Our story and our community is power. Power is surviving. There's so much power in surviving.

So tell us the story of your power. Show us how your power contributes to the power of our community. Tie the oppressor to a chair and write about conquering those challenges. Place yourself higher than you ever have before. Tell us stories of how you put yourself first for once. Tell us about the power you share with your trans siblings. Let us hear about the power of love, of vanity, of community. The category is power.
