Namal Gorge
The Nammal Gorge Salt Range, has been studied for rocks and sequence stratigraphic investigation. The Namal formation is mainly composed of limestone, with minor beds of sandstone, Silica and marl. The limestone is blaclkish grey, yellowish and purple in color at some places. Limestone of valley is fine grained, thin to medium bedded and inter-bedded with algal laminations. While the sandstone is dark yellowish brown, brick red color. A facie belt of stones comprising a wide belt of carbonate facies which is characterized by Peloidal Packstone microfacies represents inner ramp setting and Pelletal/ Peloidal Wackstone, Mud-Wackstone and Mudstone microfacies represent the low energy lagoonal environment and near areas of Salt Range near Namal Lake. The sandstone all over the valley lithofacies represents high energy beach environment which indicates aggrading to pro-grading pattern of formation . The porosity analysis performed on different samples of limestone , sandstone and rocks. From the field and porosity analysis result shows that nammal Formation in study area is good reservoir.
