New Offering: NALCD Mentorship Program
NALCD initiated a new professional development offering for the 2025-26 school year. Fifteen districts are participating in this mentorship, which is designed to provide support to individuals with district leadership responsibilities in the areas of curriculum, instruction, and assessment. The mentorship includes monthly meetings with a combination of in-person and virtual events. In addition, each participant was matched with an individual mentor with whom they can have ongoing contact for timely support.
Meeting topics for this year include Legislative Requirements & Nebraska Department of Ed. Rules, Federal Grants & NDE Reporting, Curriculum Renewal Processes, Assessment and Accountability, Strategic Planning and Board Relations, Professional Development, Current Legislation, Continuous Improvement/Accreditation, Strategic Planning and Board Relations, Program Evaluation and Managing Change, and Communication. Please reach out to NACLD Executive Director Cindy Gray at NebraskaALCD@gmail.com if you are interested in learning more about this opportunity.

Name Change: Nebraska Association for Leadership and Curriculum Development (NALCD)
Thank you to all of our members who voted this summer for bylaw updates. The Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD) and the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) are merging (ASCD+ISTE). The new merged national organization will have a new, yet-to-be-determined, name. The Nebraska ASCD Affiliate Executive Board had several important decisions to make due to this merger.
First, all ASCD state affiliates are required to change their name by April of 2026, regardless of whether they seek a partnership status with the new national organization. The Nebraska Association for Leadership and Curriculum Development (NALCD) has been selected as the new name and has been affirmed by a vote of our membership.
Second, the newly merged ASCD+ ISTE made the decision to sunset its affiliate structure. All affiliates were given the option to apply for a partnership status, and our Executive Board spent a year in reviewing the requirements to apply for partnership with ACSD+ISTE. This involved conversations with current and former national ASCD leaders, numerous meetings, and review of requirements. Several national partnership requirements are problematic. As an example, the organization would need to provide evidence of engagement with at least 1,000 unique educators each year. In addition, there are partnership requirements to co-host events and attend conferences, which require financial obligations that would likely be unsustainable. The NASCD Executive Board determined that it will not seek partnership status with the national ASC+ISTE organization at this time, based upon concerns about both attainability and sustainability of partnership status. The state organization will, however, remain in partnership with the Nebraska Council of School Administrators (NCSA) and will continue its goals of improving teaching and learning in Nebraska. Priorities for the organization will continue to include professional development opportunities and work to connect with state level policy makers regarding decisions related to teaching and learning.
