I began my journalism journey during my sophomore year, when I started as a reporter for our school newspaper. Here are some of my favorite stories from my time at The Prowl.
I chose to include this story because covering Gonzalo Anzurez’s hunt required careful interviewing, especially when discussing his accident and recovery. Coordinating quotes, verifying details with Wyoming Dream Hunts, and capturing the emotional weight of the experience pushed me to grow as a journalist. This piece is important to my portfolio because it demonstrates my ability to handle human‑interest reporting with empathy, and deliver a hopeful story to the audience.
I am including SURVIVING THE SPIN, because it required me to report on a traumatic event involving someone I personally care about. Interviewing Ava about her crash was challenging, and I had to balance my role as her friend with my responsibility as a journalist. I also did research to find verified winter‑driving statistics to give the story context and credibility. This piece is important to my portfolio because it shows my ability to handle sensitive topics, even involving someone I care about.

This story is very unique for our publication, but I had so much fun writing it. Finding someone who personally knew Coach Kohnke was pretty difficult, and tracking down historical information required persistence. Interviewing a former student-athlete and working with the Homesteader Museum helped me piece together his legacy. This story is important to my portfolio because it shows my ability to preserve local history, conduct thorough research, and bring forgotten community stories back into view.
