This past semester, I interned at the Powell Tribune. It was an incredible experience, and I'm excited to share a few of the photos and articles I've worked on below.
Reporting on Mandie Asay’s situation required a careful balance of compassion and accuracy. Her medical journey is complex, and I had to report and bring awareness to our town, while being sensitive to what her family and community were experiencing.
This story pushed me to expand my reporting skills beyond school‑based coverage and into the wider community. Covering the rapid growth of the boxing club required detailed interviews, accurate reporting on tournaments and certifications, and a clear explanation of how the program supports local youth and the broader community. This piece shows versatility as a reporter and my ability to cover community sports.
This article gave me the chance to highlight a hands‑on CTE program and show how students apply technical skills into personal passion projects. Reporting on the welding students who build roll cages required me to understand their process, and be able to explain it clearly. This piece stands out in my portfolio because it covers education from a community lens, rather than the school paper.
