I'm sure a bunch of you have seen this already, but 247 posted an article on Najee Harris in which Steve Lorenz and Sam Webb are quoted about his recruitment. I know some people have doubted over the years whether he was ever that serious about Michigan, and I know I've reiterated over and over again that Michigan had reason to believe he was coming.

In all seriousness, I sympathize with the kid. At the end of the day, he was a 17 year old kid making a decision about where to attend college. The recruiting process, with social media and the rise of an entire industry dedicated to covering recruiting, has been turned into quite the spectacle. A lot of kids relish their time in the limelight and have fun with the process, and there's nothing wrong with that. But Najee was one of the kids who wanted no part of the spectacle, and unfortunately, there was no way and clean way for him to opt out of it and get everyone to just leave him alone.

The sky is the limit for Harris in terms of on-field production and off-field attention (in a good way), for seemingly everyone associated with the NFL, aside from former NFL offensive lineman, radio broadcaster and podcast host Ross Tucker.

The next few days would involve behind-the-scenes gossip, pitches, flight changes and arguably the most anticipated non-announcement in recruiting history. This is the oral history of that week in San Antonio, which, even four years later, draws laughs and a few groans from those who followed every machination and whim of a 17-year-old who had no interest in tipping his hand.

A kiss to build a dream on...

Becoming engaged in July 2018, they moved to Georgia shortly after graduating from high school, with a dream to build their new life together. Jean had a goal to become a CNA; Najee, a law enforcement officer. They rented their first place in a beautiful gated community with a pool in suburban Atlanta, adopted a dog, Max, and thought they'd settled into the happily ever after.

In the regular season, Harris, in fact, led the state in scoring and that was done even though he missed the second half of several games in which the Panthers were so far ahead that he had to be on the sidelines.

Antioch coaches discouraged Harris from hurdling in high school, because California rules prohibited the practice if the opponent was on two feet (i.e. not on the ground). Referees called several penalties on Harris, according to Dudley, even if the defender did not always meet the two-feet stipulation.

The song "All I'll Ever Ask" by Freddie Jackson (ft. Najee) is a tender and heartfelt expression of love and devotion. The lyrics convey the idea that love encompasses many different things, but one person is all that truly matters. The singer makes it clear that all they will ever ask of their beloved is to be there for them in various ways.

The chorus emphasizes the simplicity and depth of their desires, stating that all they will ever ask is for their partner to share their dreams, fears, and feelings. They want to be a part of their significant other's life, to support and comfort them through both ups and downs. The song suggests that true love is about being there for each other, no matter the circumstances.

One thing not in dispute is that Harris never became a Bruin. After starring for Antioch (Calif.) High, Harris played for Alabama from 2017-2020 before becoming a first-round draft pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2021. He was a Pro Bowl selection as a rookie and ran for more than 1,000 yards in each of his first two NFL seasons. 17dc91bb1f
