The American English E-Teacher Program scholarship

The program offers professional development opportunities to foreign ELT educators through online courses provided by a U.S. academic institution. Courses introduce participants to current English language teaching methods and techniques and provide participants direct access to U.S. ELT experts. Courses emphasize a learner-centered approach to language teaching and are conducted entirely in English.

My participation in these course has been made possible by a tuition scholarship from the U.S. Department of State

Using Educational Technology in the English Language Classroom

I successfully completed the AE E-Teacher Program's 2020 Using Educational Technology in the English Language Classroom Global Online Course (GOC), instructed by Iowa State University. The AE E-Teacher Program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. This course helped participants utilize technology in lesson planning, materials development, feedback, and assessment. It also prepared participants to use technology for the improvement of language learning and teaching, as well as professional communication, collaboration, and efficiency.

TESOL Methodology

I successfully completed the AE E-Teacher Program's 2020 TESOL Methodology Global Online Course (GOC), instructed by University of Maryland Baltimore County. The AE E-Teacher Program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. This 8-week GOC provided participants with current methodologies for teaching English learners (ELs) of different ages in a variety of learning contexts. Participants discussed and practiced a wide variety of strategies and techniques for teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL). This included an exploration of best practices for teaching listening, speaking, reading and writing, including grammar and vocabulary. This resulted in participants learning how to create an effective and communicative language classroom for all learners. Lastly, participants examined what best practices mean in the context of teaching English in the 21st century.

Integrating Critical Thinking Skills into the Exploration of Culture in an EFL Setting

I successfully completed the AE E-Teacher Program’s 2019 Integrating Critical Thinking into the Exploration of Culture in an EFL Setting Global Online Course (GOC), instructed by World Learning. The AE E-Teacher Program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. Participants examined themselves as cultural beings and assessed learners’ needs and goals to develop concrete lessons that reflected their view of critical thinking and intercultural competence. Course topics included Culture,Critical Thinking, Multiple Perspectives, Intercultural Communication, Lesson Planning for Your Context, and Teaching Critical Thinking.

Teaching English to Young Learners

I successfully completed the AE E-Teacher Program’s 2019 Teaching English to Young Learners Global Online Course (GOC), instructed by George Mason University. The AE E-Teacher Program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. The objective of this 8-week GOC was for participants to learn effective approaches and techniques appropriate for young learners in the EFL (English as a foreign language) classroom. Participants learned techniques for teaching new vocabulary and grammar that encourage student participation. This course also helped participants develop appropriate activities for teaching the four skills—listening, speaking, reading, and writing to young EFL learners. It also prepared participants to develop student profiles about specific classes of young or very young learners and construct lesson plans for the described learners.

Content-Based Instruction

I successfully completed the AE E-Teacher Program’s 2018 Content-Based Instruction Global Online Course (GOC), instructed by World Learning. The AE E-Teacher Program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. This 8-week GOC is designed to help participants meet the challenges of balancing the teaching of both language and content in content-based instruction (CBI) courses. Participants were guided through a series of practical, hands-on activities, which were supported by the necessary background and theoretical information, to prepare participants for future decision-making and problem-solving in the area of CBI. Learning objectives for this course included identifying the characteristics of successful CBI programs, explaining major methodologies and techniques of CBI teaching, and planning CBI lessons that maximize students’ content learning and promote English language learning.

Building Teaching Skills Through the Interactive Web (Web-Skills)

I successfully completed the AE E-Teacher Program’s 2014 Building Teacher Skills Through the Interactive Web. Participants in this course deepen their understanding of computer-assisted language learning (CALL) theories, principles, and practices in the English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classroom. The course models innovative online teaching practices, enables participants to understand and use appropriate technology to enhance learning outcomes for their students, and offers opportunities to share real-world applications of technology tools and practices. The course provides educators with support and problem-solving mechanisms as they implement technology in their local contexts and uses a “train-the-trainer” model in which participants develop plans to locally disseminate knowledge they have gained.
