The Online GatheRing on July 24th is solely using the Zoom communication platform to utilize the feature that allows users to "hop" between breakout rooms freely for their desired ringing room. No event will take place in our Discord server (however it is open to use if you wish). The help literature below has not changed. If this is your first time signing up, focus on Zoom™ and Ringing Room (ringingroom.org) as you read below.
Zoom™ is used for ringing and any scheduled activities such as presentations, games, etc. At other times, it can also be a platform for casual gatherings. Zoom can also be a resource if you are in need of technical assistance in Ringing Room during the event as someone will be monitoring the main room during the duration of the event.

Common misconceptions:
Ringing Room (ringingroom.org), at the time of writing this, does not support voice chat on its platform. Thus, Zoom (or another communication platform) is required alongside Ringing Room in order to talk to other ringers in real-time.
As folks may say, for example, "join us in ringing room 6" that requires two separate actions - entering the appropriate Zoom breakout room and entering the appropriate Ringing Room tower. These steps are described below.
We encourage people with limited (or no) virtual ringing to attend! If you feel uncomfortable or overwhelmed setting up these platforms and/or would like remote assistance with Ringing Room and/or Zoom before the event, click here to get help or scroll down to the last section.
Register an account in Ringing Room at https://na.ringingroom.com/authenticate with the necessary information.
For the username, it’s helpful to use your full name, or first name and last initial, as this your display name. Up to you.
Note that Ringing Room has 3 sets of servers (in the UK, North America, and Singapore). which are separate. If you’ve been ringing in Ringing Room with a lot of UK ringers, you’re probably registered on the UK servers (ringingroom.com). Then, you will need to register a new account for the North American servers (na.ringingroom.com) which is where the OGR towers are hosted.
To join a tower, click the appropriate link provided in #generalringing-links in Discord. Or, open that room's text channel and click the link in the pinned messages.
For example, if you want to ring in room 4, go to #room-4, locate the pinned messages (the pin icon at the top), and click the Ringing Room link.
Once you open a room, you may assign yourself a desired bell by clicking "Assign Bells" and then selecting the bell(s) you want to ring. Click "Stop assigning" when finished.
If you don't see these options, you must be logged in to participate. Click the "Log in" button and enter your credentials.
To ring, there are multiple options:
[SPACE]: Rings the bell in the lower right corner.
[LEFT] and [RIGHT] arrow keys: Rings the left and right bottom-most bells.
[F] and [J]: same as [LEFT] and [RIGHT] arrow keys
Click the bell's rope (or hand bell)
You may use [L] for "look to..." audio.
Ringing Room automatically rotates the circle to align your assigned bell to the bottom-most part of the screen. If it didn't, pressing [SHIFT] and your bell number on the screen will rotate the circle.
