The Loyem Memorial Trophy is a football tournament held annually in Tuensang, Nagaland, India. It was established in 1992 in memory of Loyem Chang, the former head DB of Tuensang HQ. The trophy is a symbol of resilience and unity, promoting peace, sportsmanship, and development of young footballers in the region.
ABOUT LOYEM MEMORIAL TROPHY
32 years back, in the early nineties, amidst the tension in Tuensang, a visionary leader of the Chang Students' Conference saw an opportunity to unite, to bring coherence through games and sports, bridging gaps and nurturing talent.
In 1992, the Chang Students' Conference approached the DC of Tuensang, aiming to organize the Chang Students Conference Trophy.
Meanwhile, the late Changkong Chang, a former Minister, envisioned a trophy in memory of his father, Loyem Chang, the revered head DB of Tuensang HQ. He collaborated with the District Sports Council, led by the Deputy Commissioner.
In 1992, the Loyem Memorial Trophy came into existence, and today, it stands as a symbol of resilience, reminding us that even in challenging times, unity and passion can triumph.
The 31st edition of the Loyem Memorial Trophy was held in October 2023, and it was won by Son Kük Laang FC, who defeated D.E.F. Tuensang in the final.
The Loyem Memorial Football Tournament is a valuable asset to the Tuensang district and to Nagaland as a whole. It is a tournament that promotes peace, unity, and sportsmanship, and helps to develop the talents of young footballers.
