Biography
Nafiz Imtiaz is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He previously served as a Lecturer in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) at Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST), where he is presently on study leave to continue his doctoral training.
His research at UCLA focuses on Monolithically Integrated Terahertz (THz) Optoelectronic Systems, emphasizing device platforms that unify photonics and high-frequency electronics. His work seeks to advance next-generation THz communication and sensing technologies through nanoscale device engineering, electromagnetic design, and integrated optoelectronic co-optimization.
He received his B.Sc. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) in 2021 and his M.Sc. in Electronics and Photonics from BUET in 2024. His master’s research examined III-Nitride nanowire-based electro-absorption modulators (EAMs), with a focus on enhancing modulation efficiency via engineered light–matter interactions in nanostructured platforms. His undergraduate thesis investigated spoof surface plasmon polariton (SSPP)-based interconnects for high-speed chip-to-chip communication, exploring dispersion engineering for bandwidth and performance enhancement.
His broader research interests include photonics, plasmonics, optical integrated circuits, optoelectronics, nonlinear optics, and biosensing technologies. He is particularly interested in the development of novel photonic and plasmonic device concepts to enable compact, energy-efficient, and high-performance optoelectronic systems for emerging communication and sensing applications.
