MAHEC Blood Typing & Clinical Decision Workshop (9th-12th Grade)
NWMO AHEC, in collaboration with the UMKC Anatomy Club, is excited to offer a hands‑on healthcare workshop for students interested in medical and health‑science careers. We would appreciate your help in sharing this opportunity with your students.

Workshop Overview: Students will participate in an interactive Blood Typing and Clinical Decision-Making Workshop led by UMKC medical students. This session gives students exposure to clinical skills, teamwork, and real‑world healthcare decision-making—an excellent enrichment experience for those interested in medical pathways.

MU Mini Med School (11th Grade)

Mizzou MedPrep: Medical Explorations (10th & 11th Grade)
Registration is now open (2/25/26), and participation is limited to 40 students. Early application is encouraged.
The University of Missouri School of Medicine invites current freshmen and sophomores to apply for the Mizzou Medical Explorations Program. This two‑week online workshop includes a one‑day in‑person visit to the University of Missouri–Columbia campus. Students will have the opportunity to engage, explore, and experience careers in healthcare. The program is designed to support self‑awareness, career development, and connection with peers, students, staff, and faculty.

The 2026 Apple Blossom Pageant will return to the historic Missouri Theater on Saturday, March 21 at 6:00 p.m.
The pageant will be held at the Missouri Theater, 717 Edmond St., St. Joseph. A rehearsal is scheduled for Friday, March 20 at 6:00 p.m.
Participants compete in three divisions: Princess (ages 7–10), Junior Queen
(ages 11–14), and Queen (ages 15–19). Royalty and attendants will ride in the Apple Blossom Parade on May 2. Cash awards will be presented to the winners in each division. The Princess will receive $100, the Junior Queen $200, and the Queen $500.
“The Apple Blossom Pageant highlights the talent and character of young women in our community,” said Executive Director Michelle Wolfe. “It’s an opportunity for participants to grow, lead, and be part of something that has meant so much to St. Joseph for generations.”

FBI Teen Academy (10th & 11th Grade)
Due April 3rd.
Click above for the application. for current 10th and 11th grade students (graduation years 2027 and 2028). During Teen Academy, students will meet FBI agents and professional staff and get a behind the scenes look at the FBI through demonstrations, case examples, classroom discussions, and simulations. Students will learn about the SWAT team, evidence collection, crisis negotiation, intelligence analysis, and more.
Teen Academy is a competitive opportunity, and a limited number of students will be selected. The selection process is holistic, and includes an essay, extracurricular activities, and GPA. We encourage any interested student to apply.

GLADE Project (Green Leadership Academy for Diverse Ecosystems) is a youth conservation leadership academy and it is FREE to selected participants.
They are looking for students who are in their sophomore or junior year of high school who can commit to attending all of GLADE, June 7th-13th, 2026.

GLADE will be held June 7th thru 13th, Sunday to Saturday. During the weeklong residential stay at the Childress Camp near Joplin, participants will engage in leadership activities, prairie walks, fire ecology, bird banding, reptile and insect research, habitat restoration, water quality monitoring, and bumble bee surveys at the historic Diamond Prairie and George Washington Carver National Monument. Our schedule includes visits from Dr. Chris Barnhart (researcher in all things butterfly and mussels), MDC, Prairie Foundation, Nature Conservancy, Shoal Creek Watershed, Missouri State Instructors, Bumblebee Atlas, and Master Naturalists.
Missouri State University CSI Summer Camp (9th-12th Grade)
Learn from a former commander of a crime scene investigation unit - basic criminal investigation, forensic analysis techniques, crime scene processing, evidence collection, lifting and examining fingerprints, casting tread impressions, identifying & examining blood splatter/stains, and more! Camp will run from June 8-11, 2026 or July 27-30, 2026 from 9am-4pm each day. Cost is $275

Each participant becomes a part of the operation of his local, county, and state government. Boys State has been a program of The American Legion since 1935.
