Each participant becomes a part of the operation of his local, county, and state government. Boys State has been a program of The American Legion since 1935.

Since the inception of the Girls State program in 1937, nearly one million young people have had the opportunity to learn first-hand how their state and local government works.

Missouri Scholars Academy (Sophomores)
"The Missouri Scholars Academy is a residential academic camp that operates seven days each week, enrolls only academically gifted students, and provides a curriculum different from that found in the traditional public or private school. It offers unique opportunities for students to enhance their academic skills; assimilate the accumulated knowledge of the culture; relate to contemporary issues; deepen understanding of themselves and their unique abilities; and engage others in critical thinking and problem-solving activities. It operates for three weeks during the month of June." Due December 1, 2024.
Leadership Savannah
"Leadership Savannah provides education and leadership development for active, civic-minded individuals. Participants attend an opening 'get acquainted' retreat followed by classes from February through June. The curriculum helps participants gain in-depth awareness of all facets of Savannah and Andrew County, encourages self-development and relationship building, and gives a better perspective of civic, business, and general community needs and issues." It includes a 6-week summer component that allows students to stay at Northwest; learn more about math, science, and technology; take trips and college visits; and prep for college -- ALL FREE! Applications are due December 16th, 2024!
MU Mini Med School (Juniors)
Click the link above to learn more about this program! "Missouri high school students interested in careers in medicine can preview what medical school is like during Mini-Medical School. Students will stay in residence halls and eat in dining rooms on campus. We strongly encourage students from underrepresented minority groups and from rural communities to apply. Participation will be open to current Missouri high school juniors (rising seniors)." The application is usually due in March.
