We live today across this land now known as South Dakota. This land we occupy has been called ‘home’ for hundreds of years by the Oceti Sakowin [oh-CHEH-tee shaw-KOH-we] which means “Seven Council Fires” and refers collectively to the Lakota, Dakota, and Nakota people.
NAACP Sioux Falls 4102-B stands in solidarity with Native nations; to protect and honor the heritage of the Oceti Sakowin, and also to learn and teach the accurate history of this place.
We are committed to a world without racism where Black people enjoy equitable opportunities in thriving communities. Our work is rooted in racial equity, civic engagement, and supportive policies and institutions for all marginalized people.
