She held herself in the most high regard without knowing how it would later lead to her death. She's among the stars where she is bound for the rest of eternity, but still sees everything that goes on. She listens to this story every time someone on earth tells it.
Cassiopeia was a queen who didn't do much but made sure people knew exactly who she was. She spent most of her days on her throne next to Cepheus where she would spend hours pampering herself. She had a perfect daughter and although her daughter was beautiful, she truly believed she was the most beautiful to ever exist. The Nereids caught wind of this and knew this queen had no chance against the wrath of Poseidon. As they knew it, the sea nymphs were the most divine in the land. When Poseidon found out he was furious, but intrigued to meet the woman who claimed to be so beautiful. He called for Cassiopeia and Cepheus because he just wanted to show them how enraged he was. The tides started pouring in flooding the kingdom. They heard loud a loud rumble and the ground started shaking. Cepheus and Cassiopeia were trembling with fear. They heard this low voice call out to them, demanding they meet with Poseidon near the shore. They heard this and Poseidon opened up a small passage that led them straight to him. When Cassiopeia was in the presence of Poseidon he immediately fell in love. This wasn't uncommon for Poseidon as he had many love affairs with whoever he desired. Cassiopeia was scared at first, but she saw the look in Poseidon's eyes and knew her beauty had won him over. With this in mind, she wanted to make him jealous so she kept boasting.
His words cut deep as she said, "My husband was so fortunate to have someone like me. No one else could ever have me!"
Although Cepheus was happy Cassiopeia was saying all of this, he wouldn't speak a word as he stood there in fear. He knew he would make matters worse, or even get killed. The words Cassiopeia spoke made Poseidon extremely angry. He shouted back at her saying, "I will do anything to break apart your family."
Cassiopeia realized she had said the wrong thing and fell to her knees saying to Poseidon, "Please, I beg of you, don't harm me or my family!"
Poseidon said, "I am not a fool and wouldn't fall for any of your tricks."
Before Cassiopeia could try to say another thing, he had already ordered Ketos to kill her daughter, Andromeda. Poseidon laughed at Cassiopeia and said, "You're all mine now."
Although she didn't know what to do, she was so vain that she was flattered by what Poseidon was doing. She knew Poseidon wanted to kill her whole family so she was his and only his. A part of her hung onto the idea that being with a Greek God was better than being with a king. She ordered Poseidon to take her to a place where they could be alone. Before he did she quietly told Cepheus to find Andromeda and save her before Ketos kills her. She wanted to go with Poseidon, but she also wanted her daughter to be safe. Poseidon was much smarter than they thought. He ordered Cepheus to be tied up with the daughter and the waves took him to the rock.
Cassiopeia knew her husband and daughter needed to be saved, but she had no way of doing that. She had accepted their fate. During her alone time with Poseidon, he gave his full attention to her and she quickly fell in love with him. Poseidon ended up leaving because he wanted to see Ketos destroy her family. He made his way to the rock where Andromeda and Cepheus were tied up. Before seeing them he would already hear Cepheus screaming, "Take me instead, let my daughter free!"
Poseidon laughed and shouted back, "Why would I do that when Ketos can have both of you? Silly man."
Cepheus prayed to any and all gods to save him and his daughter. Poseidon finally made his way to the rock, looked up at both of them, and locked eyes on Andromeda. At first glimpse he fell even more in love with her than he did her mother.
The family would ultimately change after this and the drama gets worse and worse. What does Cassiopeia do now as she is in love with someone who loves her daughter?
