In the midst of our day to day work, we are trying to give time and space to innovation and design-thinking.
Below are just a few examples of the ideas that we are growing and the projects that we are actively working on this year.
If you'd like to know more, just drop us a line.
The ISB Experience Room represents a revolution in school admissions. This interactive, intentionally designed space was driven by a key question: how can we re-imagine admissions as a learning experience for families.
More than one year since opening, we are currently working on version 2.0 of this room. We are analysing the data. We are looking at how to share what we have learned for others to develop their own Experience Room. We are also looking at how to build into this concept the idea of an Admissions Decision Making Cycle.
Rooted in the Lifecycle of School Engagement, Robin Berting and Suzette Parlevliet have developed a "Transitions Game", designed to help us understand and reflect on the interaction we have with families going various stages of transition. It's a game that leads to better conversations and better insights into the user experience of families in our school.
"Schools are changing. And my point is simply that our traditional fundraising strategies in this new educational landscape may no longer apply." (Fragments2.com)
At Learning by Design 2019, we hosted a generative conversation with fellow Advancement professionals, teachers, heads of school and Trustees about the role of development in schools. It used a design thinking process to dig deep into the problems that we are trying to solve and encouraged every one of us to stop for a moment and try to imagine different possible pathways for the work that we do.
Is it possible to imagine the universal journey of a student beyond school? What is the role of the school in supporting him or her along that journey? Perhaps we can design a series of Elements can be "played" in endless combinations at different moments in time.
Watch this space for more information about how we are trying to reshape the way in which we connect to members of our Alumni community.
Simply, our job descriptions are traditional and outdated. So we are working on re-formulating what we do to align with our definition of Advancement and the Elements of the Periodic Table of Advancement.
"In the history of education, I am suggesting, international education is still little more than a punctuation mark at the end of a long sentence. And there is no telling, at this point in time, whether it will be a factor in human history six decades from now."(Fragments2.com)
We are learning about scenario planning and, using a new set of tools and protocols, trying to look deeper into the future than we would normally be able to go.
If you'd like to find out more about any of these projects, we'd love for you to get involved.
On January 7, a group of Advancement Colleagues from a range of international schools plus representatives from key networks met to:

Almost as soon as we opened the ISB Experience Room, back in January 2018, it was obvious that our school website was somehow out of sync and needed to be brought into line with this new approach.
So we started to imagine possibilities. We dreamed and sketched. We described the possible and the impossible. We looked around at the inspiring work being done by colleagues in other schools and in other fields.
