Bored with seeing the same handful of photos looping endlessly in your Apple TV screensaver? I was too — so I built the app.
My Life in Reels transforms your Apple TV into a truly intelligent, immersive media showcase. While it doesn’t replace Apple’s built-in screensaver directly, you can launch it from your Home Screen and enjoy everything you wish the stock screensaver could do… and more.
Your Photos. Your Rules.
Unlike the standard Apple TV experience, My Life in Reels gives you full control over how your memories are displayed.
Choose exactly what to display — select specific albums, including Smart Albums
📸 Photos AND 🎥 videos (with 🎧 audio!) — because your memories aren’t just still images
Intelligent playback tracking — remembers what has already been shown for each album
No annoying repeats — media won’t repeat until everything has been displayed, unless you choose to reset
Beautiful date & location overlays — instantly see when and where your moments happened
Title & caption support — display your custom comments and photo descriptions
Smart shuffling — a more natural, varied viewing experience
Swipe left/right on remote to go to next/previous picture/video.
Point to static and shared albums
Immersive, cinematic playback designed specifically for the big screen
Built for photo lovers, organizers, and memory keepers.
Date & location the picture was taken
Progress counter shows how many pictures/videos you have seen so far from the album and the total number in the album
Caption actually covers Title and Caption. If they exist, they will display
Caption position lets you control which side of the screen the caption appears
Text background places a rounded rectangle behind the text to make it easier to read.
Select the font style you want to use
Opacity allows you to define how solid/see through the font is.
Size
Color
Low shadow radius (1-2) → tight, sharp shadow right behind the letters — looks crisp and subtle
Medium shadow radius (4-6) → soft glow around the text — easier to read on complex backgrounds
High shadow radius (10+) → very diffused, almost halo-like shadow — very readable but can look heavy
Notice a date or location that doesn’t look right?
Simply swipe up while viewing to reveal the file name
Open Photos app
Click on Library to SEe all photos and videos
Enter the file name
Hit CMD+I to open the info
Change the date, location, title or caption
NOTE: If you have a lot of photos you want to clean up (ex: missing location), create a Smart Album and then work your way through cleaning them up.
Rediscover your photo library — without the repetition, limitations, or randomness of the standard screensaver.
