“Even strength has to bow to wisdom sometimes.”
—Annabeth
This was definitely as good as everyone says it is. The details and plot were so well-written and I could imagine everything very clearly. The events all tied together great and kept you guessing on what would happen next. The foreshadowing worked really well and there were hints near the beginning that Luke was the one who stole the master bolt. The fighting parts were also cool, and I enjoyed reading about all of the different monsters.
The part I most liked was when they played capture the flag and his father was revealed as Poseidon, and also when Percy faced the Chimera and Echidna and fell off the Gateway Arch. Annabeth was amazing, I loved how her personality was shown slowly throughout the book, and how she always was one step ahead of Percy. I also liked how they got rid of Gabe with Medusa and that Percy could finally be with Sally Jackson.
The cliffhanger at the end with Luke was intense, and I wonder what he and Kronos will do in The Sea of Monsters, and if Grover will be able to find Pan. I think that it would also be helpful to read a guide for Greek Gods before reading this or any of this series. Overall, I think this will be one of my new favorite series, I would definitely recommend it, and I’m very excited to start reading the next and all of Rick Riordan’s other books!!
Summary:
Percy Jackson has always known he’s been different. When he is at school one day, his teacher turns into one of the Furies and his other teacher turns into a centaur and gives Percy a sword to defeat the monster. Later, he, Grover, and his mother go to camp half-blood with the Minotaur chasing them, and his mother distracts the monster and sacrifices herself to let Percy and Grover get to camp. Percy meets Annabeth and they play an intense game of capture the flag with Luke on Percy’s side.
Percy is claimed as Poseidon’s son, and receives a prophecy from the Oracle to go on a quest to retrieve the master bolt from Hades. He chooses Grover and Annabeth to go with him, and they first travel westward and face Medusa, whom Percy defeats. Later, they go up the Gateway Arch, and Percy falls off at the top after he meets the Chimera. He plunges into water which is the reason he lived as the son of Poseidon, and later he and his friends meet with Ares. Ares tells them to retrieve his shield from a water park but Hapheastus had set it up to camera them. Then they ride to Las Vegas and stay at the casino after releasing the animals that were in the truck they took.
Then they go to a water bed shop with Procrustes who almost traps Annabeth and Grover but Percy stops him. They later go to the underworld, dodge Cerberus, and talk to Hades. They figure out that Ares set them up to look like Percy had the master bolt, and he battles with Ares to get the master bolt and helm of darkness for Hades, who in turn returns Percy’s mother.
Percy meets Poseidon and Zeus in the olympians palace and returns the bolt. He talks with his father and later returns to camp half-blood only to choose to go with his mother and attend mortal school. Before he can go with his mother, Luke talks with him and asks if he wants to join the rebuilding of Kronos to defeat the gods, and Percy declines, so Luke sends his scorpion to attack him and disappears, but Percy later recovers and attends school.

Buddy read this with Carrot! (Look in buddy read sections to see more)
The fast-paced start definitely catches your attention and the amazing details and characters with deep personalities keep you reading the rest. At the beginning, I felt bad for Tyson trying to prove himself to Percy and anyone else, and it was surprising that Poseidon decided to claim him as his son, especially so soon.
It was also clever of Rick Riordan to connect Grover and Percy so that it felt more urgent for Percy to rescue him. I also think the Greek mythology was really well tied in to everything that happened, like how Hermes played parts in it as well as Circe. I wonder what Thalia’s attitude will be like toward Percy, and what will happen the prophecy.
My favorite character is still Annabeth, I love that she always was there to help Percy, especially with fighting all the monsters. My favorite part was probably when Percy saved Annabeth from the Sirens, or when they won the chariot race together. I’m also excited for when season two of the show comes out, since I enjoyed the first season. Some parts of the book were a bit cliché, like Kronos rising bit by bit and needing a servant to help him. I also think that Grover should have been included a bit more than he was, especially near the end. Other than that, it was very well-written and I really enjoyed all of the characters and storyline.
Summary:
Percy is at his school when monsters show up and Tyson, one of Percy’s friends, defeats them. Annabeth, Percy, and Tyson go to Camp Half-Blood only to find out that Chiron is fired and that monsters can enter the camp now that Thalia’s tree is poisoned, and so Percy faces two giant metal bulls with the other campers.
Tyson is claimed as a son of Poseidon, and later they work on a chariot for the race together. Percy dreams about Grover, who is trapped by a cyclops in the Sea of Monsters named Polyphemus. During the chariot race, Stymphalian birds attack, and Percy and Annabeth ward them off. Later, Hermes gives Percy a few gifts and helps him travel with Annabeth and Tyson to the Sea of Monsters by a cruise ship, but they have to use hippocampi to get to the ship.
When they do arrive, they realize that Luke is on board and he captures them with his guards, showing them where Kronos is being restored to power bit by bit. The escape using a lifeboat and a gift from Hermes, and face a Hydra. Clarisse rescues them with a ship from her father and they head to the Sea of Monsters. When they enter, they split up with Tyson and Clarisse, and get lured in to Circe’s Spa, where Circe tricks Annabeth and Percy.
Afterward, the both of them sail past the Sirens, and Percy ends up having to save Annabeth from their songs. Later, when they reach Polyphemus‘s island, they find Clarisse already there and trapped with Grover. Annabeth and Percy come up with a plan to save both of them, and manage to do it with the help of Tyson, who was able to make it to the island on his hippocampus, Rainbow.
When they finally defeat Polyphemus who sunk the ship they had, Percy and Tyson call for the hippocampi to come there, and they take them to Miami. They let Clarisse take a plane back to camp by herself with the Golden Fleece since it was her quest in the first place, and Luke shows up and confronts the rest of them, only to realize he is too late. Percy tricks Luke into admitting what he’d done in front of the Iris message to Dionysus, and so Dionysus agrees to let Chiron back.
After Luke and Percy duel, Chiron himself comes with other centaurs and rescues the group and brings them to camp half-blood. Chiron is reinstated as the activities director, and they continue with the chariot races. Tyson gives Percy a watch that can transform into a shield, and Annabeth and Percy win the chariot race with a lot of Tyson’s help. Poseidon gives Percy the message to brace himself, and later they realize that the Fleece has not only healed Thalia’s tree but brought her back entirely, and that Thalia could now be apart of the prophecy.

This book gave me a new perspective on hearing, and I really like how the whales tied in with Iris’s story. I think it would be hard to be deaf, but I also think it would be really cool to learn sign language. My favorite part of this book was when Iris dove into the water to meet Blue 55, and my favorite character was Bennie. I also liked the process that Iris went through to make the song, and I overall thought this was a great story.
⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
Darkstalker was an AMAZING book. The characters were well-developed, and I loved seeing the backstory with Darkstalker. I really enjoyed Clearsight and Darkstalker, but Fathom wasn’t great in my opinion, except for the beginning and very end of the book. The most intense part was when Albatross found Indigo and Fathom hiding, and I liked the ending with him and Indigo, but I wish that Clearsight and Darkstalker could have ended up together. My favorite part was when Clearsight met Darkstalker, and I liked seeing all of the things that Darkstalker made with his scroll. Overall, this book was great.
⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
This book was amazing, and had a lot of twists, but I still like the first book the most. My favorite parts were when Harlyn comforts Kestra in the tunnel and when Kestra saves Simon from Joth. My favorite character is Kestra and I also like Rawk. The part that surprised me the most was when Kestra gave up the throne since I thought that she was going to end up as the queen with Simon as the king. I really liked the ending, and it was a really great trilogy to read.
⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
The second book was pretty slow and not very entertaining for most of the first half, but the second half picked up pace. My favorite part was when Simon saves the young Rawkyren and when Kestra. I really liked the characters Wynnow and Harlyn, even though I don’t want Simon to marry her. The part that surprised me the most was when Out revealed that Loelle was actually the Corack traitor and takes Kestra away at the end. It was also really sad when Tilly died. Overall, I liked this book, but I like the first one better.
This book was fast-paced and full of many twists. I’m excited to read The Deceiver’s Heart after what happened at the end of this book. My favorite character is Kestra’s, and my favorite parts were when Simon and Kestra escape Woodcourt and when Kestra claims the Olden Blade. The part that surprised me the most was when it was revealed who Kestra’s parents actually were, and it was a bit hard to keep up with all of the twists. Overall, I really enjoyed The Traitor’s Game.
⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
This book was great, and the plot was entertaining. I had already read the graphic novel version, but this had more detail and I liked it better. My favorite characters are Glory and Tsunami, and my favorite part was when Glory stopped pretending to be asleep and (probably) killed Queen Scarlet with her venom. The part that surprised me the most was when Kestrel died, since the dragonets had just rescued her and I thought she would live. This series will probably turn out to be one my favorites.
⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
This book was amazing and inspiring. I really liked that they always wrote to each other, and still do, no matter what. My favorite part is when Martin finally arrives to America and hugs Caitlin.
⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
This was a great book. The mythical creatures were really cool, and my favorite part was when Zoe saved Logan from the Kelpie. My favorite character was Zoe. The part that surprised me most was when they figured out that Logan’s mom was a SNAPA agent, since I thought that his dad was going to be a SNAPA agent since he was always gone from the house and said he worked in the wildlife department. Overall, I liked this book and am excited to read the next book.
⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
The first half of Stellarlune was slow-paced and boring, since they mostly talked about the caches which weren’t very helpful to the book overall, and the conversations were way too long (like 50 pages long, I’m not exaggerating), and could’ve been shortened. I also think that Sophie definitely should’ve at least tried to use her spyball to see where Keefe was before she used it to track the shadowflux in him.
But the second half was much more enjoyable, and I’m excited for the tenth book. The cover is also really pretty, and my favorite part is when Sophie finally tells Keefe how she feels (even though I like Fitz better). My favorite character is Linh, and the part that surprised me most was the cliffhanger at the end when they figure out that Elysian is a person, since I thought that they were FINALLY getting somewhere when they went into the Noxflare entrance thing. Overall, I liked Stellarlune.
⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
Unlocked was amazing, and I loved the illustrations and descriptions of everything. It’s probably my third favorite of the series. One of my favorite pictures was the murcat, and I also liked the alicorns and the character portraits. Keefe’s files were also really funny, and I liked learning more about some of the adults and Councillors. My favorite Councillor is Councillor Clarette, since I think her Polyglot ability to speak with animals is really cool, and I like her gem color turquoise. My favorite part of the novella was when Sophie found the caches and burned the storehouse, and I’m excited to see what she’ll do when she finds out that Keefe ran away again.
⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
I enjoyed this book, and my favorite part was when Sophie figured out that her biological mother is Councillor Oralie, which was also the part that surprised me most, along with when Maruca manifests as a psionipath. My favorite character is still Sophie with Linh as a close second. Overall, I thought Legacy was kind of repetitive in parts like Sophie resetting her inflicting and enhancing abilities, and Lady Gisela getting away again, but I still really like it.
⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
This book was great, and it’s my second favorite of the series, after Exile. My favorite part is when Sophie names Silveny’s babies Luna and Wynn, and my favorite character is Sophie. The part that surprised me the most was when Alvar recovered his memories again, since I thought he was actually going to change. It was also annoying when the Neverseen took Tam, and Alvar escaped, and I thought that the Black Swan and the Council were actually prepared and that they were going to catch some members of the Neverseen.
⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
I liked Nightfall better than Lodestar, and my favorite part was when Amy and Sophie rode on Silveny. The biggest surprise was when Mr. Forkle revealed that his twin brother died and not him, and also when Alvar didn’t remember anything at the end. My favorite character is Sophie, and I really like Linh. Tam and Linh also reminded me of Katara and Sokka from Avatar: The Last Airbender since Linh is kind of like a waterbender. And Grady being a Mesmer is similar to bloodbending. Overall, I thought this book was great and can’t wait to read the next book!
⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
I liked this book, but Exile is my favorite of the series. My favorite character is Sophie, but I also like Councillor Oralie. The part I liked most was when Keefe decided to quit being with the Neverseen, and I didn’t like how he didn’t come back sooner, since the only thing that he really helped Sophie with was getting the caches. I like Sophie’s new ability, but it was hinting that she would use the Enhancer ability to unintentionally help Neverseen. It also mentioned more about humans in this book, so I wonder what will happen with them in the future books with them.
It was also a big surprise when Mr. Forkle died, and when Sophie’s little sister recognized her, and I wonder if the elves will erase her memories again. I also want to know who Sophie’s real parents are. A couple of times throughout the book, there was a lot of new information and was a bit hard to follow and maybe a bit too fast-paced, but overall, I enjoyed it.
⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
Wow. I completely wasn’t expecting all of the unexpected twists at the end. Two more people turned to the Neverseen, I didn’t think one of them would be Alvar, but there were hints throughout the book, and I DEFINITELY didn’t expect Keefe to join the Neverseen and give them the cache after all of the trust that Sophie had with him. I wonder what memories he discovered to make him think he belonged with the Neverseen.
It was sad when Calla had to change form into the Panake tree, but I’m glad that the gnomes now have the cure. It was also a big surprise when Mr. Forkle and Granite revealed their other identities, and I wonder what will happen in the next book now that Prentice is awake. I didn’t want Silveny and Greyfell to be set free, and I hope Sophie sees them again with their baby. My favorite part was when Sophie was unbanished and given the chance to return to Foxfire, and when she discovered that Silveny was pregnant. I really liked the the new characters Tam and Lihn with their new abilities. Overall, this book was great.
⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
This was really fun to read, and throughout the whole book it kept me guessing what was going to happen next. I liked Everblaze more than the first book, but the second is still my favorite so far. I suspected that Keefe’s father was up to something from the very beginning, but didn’t expect his mother to be behind it all. It also surprised me when Sophie figured out that Brant was actually the one who killed Jolie, and I wonder how he’ll be brought up in the next books. My favorite part was when Fitz and Sophie had the Telepathy session together, and shared their secrets, and I also liked how kind Grady and Edaline were to Sophie. My favorite character is Sophie, but I also like Silveny and Fitz, and I wonder how Sophie’s relationship with Marella will play out later on. Overall, I can’t wait to read what happens when they join the Black Swan.
⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
This book was incredible, and made me love the keeper of the lost cities series even more. My favorite part was when Sophie found Silveny, who I really like. I also liked when Sophie healed Alden’s mind and found answers about the Black Swan. The part that surprised me the most was when Sophie found out that she was able to teleport. Overall, this was amazing, and I really liked the cover illustration.
⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
This was an amazing book that is now one of my favorites. The detail was great, and I could imagine all the characters and objects. My favorite part was when Sophie was rescued from the captors and learned that she had another special ability.
My favorite character was Sophie, but I also liked Dex. The part that surprised me most was when she got captured in the cave, and I like how she chose to be adopted by Edaline and Grady.
⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
This was a good book about a genius girl named Lucy that gets struck by lightning. During the incident, part of her brain gets damaged, while the other part charges, and that’s when Lucy becomes a math savant, someone who can do difficult math problems very easily. Her grandma insists that she goes to middle school, even though she could be at college since she’s so smart. While at the school, she makes a new friend, and when together they do a school service project, Lucy meets a dog that could change her life.
My favorite part of the book was when Lucy stood up to Maddie, and I also like the part at the end when Cutie Pi finally gets adopted. My favorite character was Cutie Pi, and I also liked Windy. What surprised me most was when Cutie Pi was adopted by Lucy’s math teacher, since I thought that someone other than him would adopt Cutie Pi.
⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
This was an amazing book that taught about passionate women that followed their dreams of working with and to help animals. It was inspiring to me, because I want to become a mammalogist when I grow up, and my favorite person to read about was Bella Lack who was an environmental activist.
⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
This was eye opening, and it taught me so many things about how life used to be with apartheid in South Africa. I really loved all of the stories that Trevor Noah told in this, and they made me laugh out loud more than once. The ending was unexpected, and I really liked this book.
⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
I liked this book, and my favorite part was when they find Artime. My favorite character was Lani, and I also liked Simber the cheetah statue. The thing that surprised me most about this book was when Aaron didn’t join Alex in Artime, and when The Unwanteds were sent to Artime.
I didn’t like the third-person writing style very much, since it jumped around from person to person instead of having one chapter for each person’s perspectives, which I would have preferred and would’ve made the story more enjoyable to read.
⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
This book is now one of my favorites, and I really liked how it was written. My favorite part was when Willa finally meets Adelaide, who is my favorite character of the book, and the part that surprised me most was when Willa discovered that Adelaide was her lost twin sister, Alliw. My least favorite part was when Willa turned into a tree at the end to save Nathaniel, because I wish that she could’ve gotten the chance to spend more time with Alliw. I hope that Robert Beatty makes another book where Willa turns back into a Faeran girl. Overall, I was really impressed with this book, and would like to reread it.
⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
I really liked this book and how it had to do a lot with nature, and my favorite part was when Willa saved the black panther and when she warned Luthien that the padaran was about to hurt her. I also liked how the twin’s names were the same but spelled backwards. The part that surprised me most was that Niallic the padaran was blending the whole time and that he was Willa’s uncle and twin brother to her father Cillian. My least favorite part was when Scout died.
⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
1st read: This is a really good book about a wolf who runs away when his pack gets taken over by a neighboring pack. He makes friends along the way while trying to find a new home, and he keeps seeing a strange black wolf along the way . . .
2nd read: This book was beautifully designed work wonderful illustrations. My favorite part was when Wander finally met Night, and my favorite characters were Warm and Night. The saddest part to me was when Wander loses Warm after being reunited with him. This is one of my favorite books, and I am excited to read Rosanne Parry’s new book ‘A Horse Named Sky’ in August.
⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
This was a good book and I am excited to read the next one. My favorite part was when Siffrin taught Isla some foxcraft, and I also like it when Isla set free the animals from the zoo and the wolf helped her. My favorite character was Isla, but my second favorite was Siffrin. Overall, this book was good.
⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
This book was very inspiring and fun to read. My favorite character was Mina. I loved her personality, and how Pixit helped her find confidence in herself. I also liked the quote on the cover that says, “Even the quietest voices can change the world.” I liked that Mina made friends at Myrtis that helped her through the challenges. I also liked how it wrapped up in the end and Mina got the prime minister to listen, and still helped the people from Dern. But my favorite part was how Mina got people to listen in unexpected ways. This book was overall positive.
⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
This book was really imaginative, and I liked how everything wrapped up in the end. My favorite part was when Amari uses her illusions to put on a show for the people, and I also liked it when she nominated Jayden. There were two things that I noticed, one, Amari rides an elevator named Lord Kensington, which is cool because that is my name. And two, Amari’s name and Maria’s name have the same letters, only scrambled. If I could choose a department, then I would pick the Department of Creature Control. Also, if I could pick my enhanced talent, I would probably choose communication and transformation with animals. The overall message that I got from this book was to never give up, and to let your inside matter more than your outside.
⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
This was a very good book, and I loved the storyline and the plot. The characters were well developed, and I am excited to read the second book. I loved how Sage turned into (or is) Jaron, and how that surprised Conner. My favorite character is Imogen, and I like the horse Windstorm. I would recommend this to anyone who likes fantasy, Middle Ages, and royalty. Overall, this is one of my favorite books.
⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
This was my absolute favorite Warriors book yet! I loved all of the backstory in this, and Bluestar is now one of my favorite characters. My favorite part was when she met with Oakheart because she chooses to have kits but still wants to be, and becomes, leader of Thunderclan. I only finished this in two days because of how good it was.
