Overview of the HUMSS Strand
The Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) strand is one of the academic tracks under the Senior High School (SHS) program in the Philippines. Its main objective is to develop students' critical thinking, analytical, and communication skills, particularly in the areas of humanities and social sciences.
The HUMSS strand focuses on subjects such as Philosophy, Psychology, Sociology, Anthropology, Political Science, Economics, and History. These subjects aim to provide students with a deeper understanding of human behavior, social structures, and cultural practices.
Critical Thinking
In order to make well-informed judgments and find solutions to challenging issues, HUMSS places a strong emphasis on the critical analysis and evaluation of concepts, texts, and arguments.
HUMSS students are usually very good at communicating both orally and in writing, which helps them to do research, present ideas clearly, and participate in debates.
Compiling, evaluating, and synthesizing data from a variety of sources is a common part of HUMSS coursework.
Cultural Awareness
Studying many cultures, societies, and historical eras helps HUMSS students gain a broader knowledge of variety and the world's viewpoints.
Recognizing and appreciating the views of others, as well as showing sympathy for various social groupings.
The ability to recognize problems, investigate their underlying causes, and come up with original solutions to deal with problems and social issues.
Adaptability
The capacity to change with the times and adjust to novel concepts, viewpoints, and life events as well as shifting social, cultural, and academic contexts.
It is important to reflect on oneself in order to recognize one's own prejudices, values, and views. It is also important to keep learning about societal issues and how people interact in society.
