Sexual morality has drastically changed in the last 50 years. This comprises a new attitudes towards sexuality, towards fertility (now under the control of technological innovations), towards marriage (now open to same-sex marriage), towards gender identity, etc. All these changes are pursued in the name of progress and an improvement on human dignity. If that is the case, people failing to align themselves with these changes would be opposing humanity itself. The issue is not presented anymore as a question of different world-views that can peacefully co-exist in tolerance. Now it is a matter of either we are for or against the new conquered progress. So, what shall we do?
The drastic changes in sexual morality are not an improvement in human dignity as the popular narrative would have it. Those changes are the result of very old cultural dogmas that are today surfacing with new extreme conclusions. How to move forward? Not by dogmatizing from either side but by engaging in a genuine dialogue that questions the new cultural taboos and offers reasonable new paths forward. In summary, those who agree with the moral changes in sexuality agreed for the wrong reasons and those who disagree are probably nursing in their minds the seeds of the tree they wish to fell.
